Fire crews called out to First Impression dry cleaners

January 21, 2020 by Lee Leave a Comment

A local resident made me aware of an incident involving First Impression dry cleaners on Bridge Street in Ramsbottom.

These photos were taken around 5:30pm on January 21st.

Hopefully not too much damage has been caused and everyone’s clothes were safe.

Updated: Tre Ciccio enters administration

January 21, 2020 by Lee Leave a Comment

Tre Ciccio have provided a statement regarding the article in Altrincham Today:

Update: The landlord of the Ramsbottom Tre Ciccio has indicated this via social in regards to the report in Altrincham Today:

Tre Ciccio enter administration reports Altincham Today

I was shocked at this, and as the article itself states: ” The news will come as a major surprise for many, with Tre Ciccio seemingly having proved one of the town’s success stories”

I am conscious that running a restaurant is extremely difficult, especially in these times given recent similar reports in the news regarding Jamie’s Italian and Pizza Express

Initially I thought that this was just affecting the Altrincham restaurant however the article states:

“Patrick Lannagan and Conrad Pearson of Mazars LLP, the accounting and advisory firm, have been appointed as joint administrators for the Moss Lane restaurant, as well as its two sister restaurants in Ramsbottom and Bramhall.”

David Prior – Altrincham Today

Altrincham Today is not a publication I’m familiar with and there’s nothing on Companies House yet from what I can see.

The article also states:

No redundancies will be made while this process takes place…. Trading at the Altrincham and Ramsbottom restaurants will continue as normal while we assess the financial position of the businesses.

I first spoke to Rowan three years ago, almost to the day, on episode 84 for Ramsbottom Running Club shortly after it was formed.

At the time, there were 60 members of the Running Club, and now, it’s getting towards 400 members which is phenomenal, if you’re interested in getting involved in the Ramsbottom Running Club, which is an inclusive club, there’s even a walk and talk route now, then check out the Ramsbottom Running Club website.

This time I interviewed Rowan to find out more about the epic challenge he will be taking on this May. Rowan is running 20 Marathons, in 20 UK Cities, in 20 consecutive days…. just let that sink in a little.

Gridlock causing roadworks to continue until the 21st

January 16, 2020 by Lee 1 Comment

Roadworks have yet again brought the roads around Ramsbottom to its knees causing some journeys as short as from the Hare and Hounds to Ramsbottom of just over a mile to take between 30 minutes and an hour.

The roadworks are being completed by Electricity Northwest for an underground high voltage cable (possibly related to the power outages that have occurred in the past few months nearby)

Roadworks on A676 Bolton Road West, Ramsbottom, Bury

Every few months I seem to be reporting on how our roads are being suffocated by the sheer number of cars, yet new homes continue to be built and bus services get cut. Does anyone have the solution?

This is possibly, one of the most commonly asked questions I see, and commonly corrected too (usually pretty quickly and, let’s say passionately).

It’s a simple question, and you’d think would has a simple answer. I’m hoping that this episode of the podcast will serve as a reference for future generations, but most people will probably continue to argue online about it (sorry, discuss passionately).

This question comes up often enough for local poet Paul Jenkins to have created TWO poetry books.

To give you an example of how often this comes up, it has actually spawned two poetry books from local poet Paul Jenkins, namely Poems from VillageTown Volumes 1 and 2.

Is Ramsbottom a town or a Village?

Let me start by explaining that I honestly thought a quick “Google” of this question would provide me with some background. I know what Ramsbottom is, but I wanted to try my best to explain WHY it is what it is. Not just say, it’s this, because it is.
