So, since New Year have you got on your list of good intentions an action to get out more? Maybe it’s running? I know, I know, the weather hasn’t exactly been great with the snow recently, but hear me out.
On the podcast this week I speak to the fantastic Rowan Ardill of Ramsbottom Running Club which he started only a few months ago.
Since launching officially around the end of October 2016 the newest running club in Ramsbottom has grown from strength to strength. Starting with 25 people in that first week took Rowan by a pleasant surprise, however they now have over 60 paid members and Rowan is ecstatic with how it’s going.
Rowan is well experienced with running and clubs being that he’s an Engagement Officer for ParkRun in Bolton where some of the members of Ramsbottom Running Club travel from, as well as this Rowan has a degree in Sports Development and Physical Activity so you really are in safe hands.
Ramsbottom Running Club is on course to be affiliated with England Athletics, if it’s not already.
There are fees involved with the running club but they’re extremely reasonable and for example £14 of the membership goes towards England Athletics.
Ramsbottom Running Club Fees:
- Standard Membership – £25 per year
- Concessionary (Student, Pensioners, Unwaged) – £20 per year
- Second Claim Member (if you’re already in a running club) – £12
As well as the above fees there is a nominal £1 fee per run to go in the Rammybank.
If after the interview you’re keen to give it a go, you will find them at Irwell Works Brewery in Ramsbottom every Tuesday night at 7pm.
Thanks very much to Rowan for coming on the show and I hope he’s managed to convince you to get out running.
I do know that as this episode is released, the Running Club had 53 members turn up
Do you have a £50,000 note in your wallet, purse or till? – 24:09
Here’s something that will make your 2017 a very good one indeed. Micro engraver Graham Short has etched four miniature 5mm drawings of Jane Austen onto the new £5 notes and reintroduced them back into circulation. As of today only two have been located, the most recent being in a Christmas card.
The value of the notes is assumed to be around £50,000 and if anyone finds them they have been asked to
The notes all start with AM32 88555, the remaining notes in the wild are AM32 885552 and AM32 885554.
