Baratxuri victim of vandalism

February 6, 2016 by Lee Leave a Comment

Baratxuri Window Smashed Close 2 500px
One of the most popular new restaurants Baratxuri has suffered at the hands of vandalism. An altercation on the street happened which resulted in a wheelie bin being thrown through the window. Staff and customers of Baratxuri were not involved with the individuals and it was an unprovoked case of mindless vandalism.

It seems to be quite a common occurence in Ramsbottom, a few years back there was a spree of windows being smashed on Bridge Street with Bleakholt Animal Sanctuary being hit twice over a few years.

I just spoke to Mike from The Card Shop on Bolton Street who has also had his window smashed in the past. He said “I know how I felt when I arrived to find that, so I can only imagine how Baratxuri are feeling”

Could picking blackberries become illegal?!

February 3, 2016 by Lee

Blackberries on bushWhat would you say if I told you that you could be arrested for picking a blackberry? You’d think I was crazy right?

Well Bristol City Council are attempting to introduce a byelaw that would criminilise the act of picking “the whole or any part of any plant, shrub or tree” from any of the proposed 212 parks and green spaces around the city.

Black Pudding debunked as a superfood?

January 25, 2016 by Lee

I’m sure you’ve heard all over the news recently that Black Pudding is now being considered a “superfood” although technically that doesn’t mean much as “superfood” doesn’t really mean anything.

Blackpudding on chopping board

There is no official or legal definition of a superfood. The Oxford English dictionary, for example, describes a superfood as “a nutrient-rich food considered to be especially beneficial for health and well-being”, while the Merriam-Webster dictionary omits any reference to health and defines it as “a super nutrient-dense food, loaded with vitamins, minerals, fibre, antioxidants, and/or phytonutrients”.  Generally speaking, superfoods refer to foods — especially fruits and vegetables — whose nutrient content confers a health benefit above that of other foods.*

Bury Council save Ramsbottom from a slow choking death

November 27, 2015 by Lee

HappyFamilyFieldBury Council have today released a report that the planned anaerobic digestion facility has been rejected.

Councillor Sandra Walmsley, cabinet member for resource and regulation, was quoted as saying: “This has been a long process which has stirred up a lot of emotion among residents in Ramsbottom. I am confident that the council and its staff dealt with the whole matter in a scrupulously fair and professional way, and I welcome the fact that this has effectively been recognised in the decision by the Inspector and the Secretary of State.” [Read more…] about Bury Council save Ramsbottom from a slow choking death
