Ramsbottom Whisky Company launches

October 29, 2015 by Lee Leave a Comment

What comes to mind when you think of Ramsbottom?

  • Rammywhisky-glass-with-logoAn amazing food destination?
  • A buzzing community with great people?
  • Fantastic scenery with Peel Tower?

How about Whisky?!

No?

Well, that might be about to change as Ramsbottom now has it’s very own Whisky business called Ramsbottom Whisky Company.

It’s not quite clear yet if the Whisky is being distilled in Ramsbottom itself, however the joint venture between several members of Ramsbottom including Stuart Rothwell of The Vineyard has attracted attention of local Whisky drinkers regardless.

Rake Hill Climb 2015

October 11, 2015 by Lee Leave a Comment

Today I went to the “Race up the Rake” also known as the Rake Hill Climb and streamed the race. Sadly, the periscope stream lost about 45 minutes worth of footage, however if you were watching live, you’d have seen it all.

The Rake Hill Climb is a yearly event put together by the Lancashire Road club with £1000 for the winner.

The race starts just outside the library.

Great turn out for MacMillan Coffee Morning

October 2, 2015 by Lee Leave a Comment

Did you find time to get to Dundee United Reformed Church today to their MacMillan Coffee morning?

I walked into the room half expecting very few people despite the fact I could hear the hustle and bustle from just a short distance from the top of the wheelchair ramp leading in to Dundee United Reformed Church on Dundee Lane.

I was amazed at the turn out, the whole place was heaving, standing room only, which given this was all for MacMillan was amazing.

I paid my £2 and bought three strips of raffle tickets, one of each colour and made my way around the stalls at the outside of the room.

The changing face of Bridge Street

October 1, 2015 by Lee Leave a Comment

Ramsbottom is undergoing a facelift (some would say constantly), specifically Bridge Street. It was supposed to have several new premises opening however it would appear that Havana Cafe and Bar is no longer going to be opening, meaning that W.D Scholes is back on the market again for someone to invest in. The following businesses however are WELL on their way to opening and have made huge leaps towards opening day.

imageYou might recall from the interview I had with Lucy that Little Goody New Shoes is opening soon. The signs have been installed, stock is rolling in and the first steps into becoming a shoe shop have been made.

Another shop open during the day is a welcome to Ramsbottom given the recent boom in evening establishments such as Bars and Restaurants, speaking of which.

ID Computer Services, going mobile, or shutting down?

August 17, 2015 by Lee Leave a Comment

Edit: this shop has since became the Little Craft Café: https://www.facebook.com/Littlecraftcafe/

One of the few places to get your computer fixed in Ramsbottom, ID Computer Services on Bolton Road West near The Masons pub has put up a sign in the window stating that that they are going mobile.

Id Computer Services Sign

I don’t know exactly if this means that the shop is closing down though, although I had heard on the grapevine that they were indeed shutting up shop.

Does anyone know any different? Is one of the last independent places in Ramsbottom to pick-up a USB Memory stick closing? (Incidentally, if you do want a USB Memory stick, you can get them in Ramsbottom Library).

One other thing I did learn from this sign though is that the I in ID should be lower case. So, either the shop window sign is wrong, or this new sign is, or they’ve recently changed it?

Good deal with the collection and return though, fuel isn’t cheap.
