Swings and roundabouts, Nuttall Park gets a revamp

June 18, 2016 by Lee Leave a Comment

Nuttall Park

The largest and arguably best park in Ramsbottom had a couple of upgrades to the play area earlier this month.

The additions include a seesaw, large tee-pee style roundabout and a trampoline floor.

Me and my son had a go on the various items the other day, but we were having too much fun to remember to take any photos, thankfully the This is Rammy audience were on top form and shared their photos with me (at the end of this post).

If you’ve never been to Nuttall Park before, it’s a very central park in Ramsbottom with the River Irwell running through it as well as the East Lancs Railway line towards Bury.

Sinkhole appears on Tanners Street

June 9, 2016 by Lee 2 Comments

On the morning of Thursday the 9th if June a large sinkhole appeared in the middle of the cross section between Tanners Street and Rostron Road.

It’s believed the cause of this is likely due to heavy rain and flash floods in the past 24 hours.

Early reports suggest the work could continue to repair the sinkhole on until the 13th if June but this could extend once more investigation is done into the cause of the sinkhole.

Residents are being forced to park on side roads but parking has always been a premium on Tanners Street.

This is Rammy  understands a car was towed away earlier when the owner was unable to be contacted so that roadworks could begin.

I have since been informed that the owner of the car was located and was able to move it before it was towed away.

The car was sitting directly on the hole.

Tory Councillor Ian Schofield wins local election

May 6, 2016 by Lee Leave a Comment

It was a long day for those involved with no less than two recounts being requested finishing around 2:15am. A fantastic effort by the volunteers after another election ends in recount:

The final result after the two recounts was:

  • David Barker (UKIP) 372
  • Karen Leach (Lab) 1658
  • Ian Schofield (Con) 1695
  • Zarrin Shannon (Green) 141

Ian is a local man who lives on Peel Brow and has been seen out and about locally delivering the InTouch Conservative new leaflets.

With the results all in the final standing for seats is as follows for Bury Council:

  • Labour 32 seats
  • Lib Dems 3 seats
  • Conservatives 16 seats

I hope that Ian is able to bring to Ramsbottom everything promised in his campaign and above all serves the people.

Wetherspoon’s to open in Ramsbottom

April 1, 2016 by Lee 6 Comments

wetherspoons ramsbottom
Wetherspoons comes to Ramsbottom after securing the plot of the old Police Station.

After several years of rumours, Wetherpoons have finally managed to lay claim to our town. With the auction and sale of the old Police Station having now completed it’s come to light that the new owners are to open a Wetherspoons.

Wetherspoons already have a firm presence in Bury town centre with The Art Picture House and The Robert Peel, the question now is what will they call this one in Ramsbottom and will it keep to the feel of the town?

What do you think it will be called, keep in mind it’s on the location of the previous Police Station, will it follow the naming convention like The Robert Peel in Bury? Have your say in the comments box below or share on social media to get your friends involved.
