A couple of years back (October 2014 to be exact) Hollywood came to Ramsbottom in the form of a movie studio filming scenes for A Monster Calls. There was much fervor around the town with rumours of Liam Neeson due to show up with Sigourney Weaver in tow. In addition to shops being asked to leave their lights on in the evening to make it appear as though the town were still awake we had crowds of locals turn up to hopefully get a glimpse of Liam Neeson amongst other stars.
Well, I honestly don’t think Liam Neeson visited us, mainly because his part in the film appears to be voiceover only (not that I’ve seen it yet, but judging from the trailers he’s just the voice of The Monster).
The film seems to be a heart wrenching story of a mother who is dieing and her son. The story focuses on the son and the emotional rollercoaster he goes through with moving to a new school after going to live with his Grandma (Weaver) and having to deal with the loss of his mother. Ultimately though, residents of Ramsbottom will want to know which scenes contain Ramsbottom and if indeed those scenes are in the film or if they ended up on the cutting room floor!
