Ramsbottom residents have a lucky escape when recent storms bring down tree

February 18, 2017 by Lee 2 Comments

Just inches from the fence and a few meters from the house.

Residents of George Road in Ramsbottom might not realise how close a shave they had when a tree fell down behind them.

The tree which was located between Dundee Lane Church and George Road was around 20 meters in length has been brought down in recent high winds.

A Monster Called and Ramsbottom answered – A Monster Calls comes out on January 1st

Trucks for Camera Crew

A couple of years back (October 2014 to be exact) Hollywood came to Ramsbottom in the form of a movie studio filming scenes for A Monster Calls. There was much fervor around the town with rumours of Liam Neeson due to show up with Sigourney Weaver in tow. In addition to shops being asked to leave their lights on in the evening to make it appear as though the town were still awake we had crowds of locals turn up to hopefully get a glimpse of Liam Neeson amongst other stars.

Well, I honestly don’t think Liam Neeson visited us, mainly because his part in the film appears to be voiceover only (not that I’ve seen it yet, but judging from the trailers he’s just the voice of The Monster).

Not quite a space cake…

December 15, 2016 by Lee Leave a Comment

Today Wigan has done the unimaginable and sent a pie into the stratosphere.

You can check out the video here:

The pie; meat and potato, (or was it potato and meat?) was attached to a weather balloon as things that are sent that high up into the atmosphere often are, and soared to the dizzy heights whilst taking photos of it’s epic journey.

The pie was actually made in St Helens in the run up to the World Pie Eating Championships starting next week. It’s a shame we didn’t have a pie festival this year, sniff sniff.

So, if we of Ramsbottom were going to send something up into Space, what would it be and why?

Tool shows almost 300% increase in Burglaries in Ramsbottom

Burglar breaking into a house window with a crowbar

Sadly, some of us might not be surprised to learn that Ramsbottom has had a dramtic increase in the number of reported burglaries, with the decrease in public funding and a reduction of Police presence as well as the closing of the local Police Station, this was some said, “inevitable”.

Some have described the situation as a criminals playground on Facebook with very few crimes being investigated. How true this is I don’t know however the trends certainly provide worrying viewing.

Using a tool created by Trinity Mirror I’ve had a look at a few postcodes around Ramsbottom to try to cover a wide area, here is how they break down. I used the Derbyshire Telegraph site to conduct these searches.

How do the numbers stack up?

Ramsbottom clearing up at Manchester Food and Drink Awards 2016

October 11, 2016 by Lee 3 Comments

It’s not that rare an occasion to hear that Ramsbottom has won an award for it’s fantastic local food and drink establishments. What is rare however is that you get two of our eateries winning awards on the same night.

On a cold crisp October evening both Levanter Fine Foods and The Eagle and Child walked away with prizes from this year’s Manchester Food and Drink Awards.

We all know just how much effort all the team behind The Eagle and Child and Levanter Fine Foods put in day in, day out. It’s fantastic news to hear that this is being recognised yet again with these two brilliant awards.

Congratulations! I’m proud that you are out there representing Ramsbottom.
