worn, bright, yellow, wide and narrow

Bury Times reports that Councillor Hodgkinson spoke up at a recent council meeting with regards to the condition of Bridge Street.

Speaking for Ramsbottom, Councillor Robert Hodgkinson raised the subject of the double yellow lines on Bridge Street since recent repairs:

The recent work carried out at the top of Bridge Street included reinstating the missing yellow lines. It was not done in accordance with our conservation policy.

We now have a patchwork of missing, worn, bright, yellow, wide and narrow lines.

Welcome to another episode of This is Rammy, the podcast for Ramsbottom, it’s events and more importantly it’s people. Glad you could join me once more. This week I’m talking about the discussions that have popped up regaring Bridge Street since it’s recent closure for emergency repairs to the gas pipes. Could Pedestrianisation of Bridge Street work?

After several weeks, Bridge Street has reopened, but did this bring with it cheers of glee and dancing in the street? Not exactly, far more references to the poor workmanship based on the patching up of the surface. The tarmac was apparently going to be resurfaced but it would seem that either they forgot or ran out of time or money or both.

I can sympathise though, as you’re damned if you do and damned if you don’t. There were even some people who were calling for Bridge Street to be pedestrianised.

What do you think of the potential pedestrianisation of Bridge Street?
Would you like to see this happen?
Could it even work?

I want to start the conversation, and not just shouting back and forth about why it’s a great idea or why it’s a terrible idea, lets have some good honest debate as you’re the best one to voice it.

This week on the podcast I speak to Elizabeth Dunn who for the second time at The Theatre Royal will be directing a play, her first being Sherlock Holmes earlier in the year.

As well as directing and acting, Elizabeth has a family, a fulltime job as well as a creative flair for miniature creations which she has sold at markets such as Bolton in the past.

We’re just one month away from the biggest and best festival in the North West. My job this weekend is to give you a bit of background around the headline bands, and to give you a bit of a look into just what you might be able to expect this year. Also before I forget, you might recognise the artwork for this years festival as being fairly familiar, well that would be because it’s our very own local graphic designer Adam Rowlinsons handywork. Nice one Adam.

Keep in mind that these are not the full final lineups yet, there is more due to come. It’s likely a combination of dotting the i’s crossing the t’s and making sure that there is a sufficient supply of green M&M’s on the rider. So here we go, let’s jump straight into the lineup on day one as it has been presented so far.

Ramsbottom was on high alert after a large ball of fire was seen in the sky. It hung there throughout the day bringing warmth and causing people to leave the house without a coat. Naturally I’m referring to the fact that the sun came out in Ramsbottom, which in recent months is a rarity, and it didn’t even rain!

The sun was likely much welcomed at the wedding I witnessed going on at St Paul’s Church (I can only imagine what this Bride thought when they heard of the news that Bridge Street would be closed for their happy day. Check out the photo of the car on the show notes.) If all that didn’t have you skipping slightly as you walked down the streets, it was also Thomas the Tank Engine weekend on the East Lancs Railway.
