worn, bright, yellow, wide and narrow

Bury Times reports that Councillor Hodgkinson spoke up at a recent council meeting with regards to the condition of Bridge Street.

Speaking for Ramsbottom, Councillor Robert Hodgkinson raised the subject of the double yellow lines on Bridge Street since recent repairs:

The recent work carried out at the top of Bridge Street included reinstating the missing yellow lines. It was not done in accordance with our conservation policy.

We now have a patchwork of missing, worn, bright, yellow, wide and narrow lines.

It’s that time of year again where damn fools try their best to get to the top of a big hill in as fast a time as possible. You’ve guessed it, it’s the Rake Hill Climb.

This week I caught up with Lancashire Road Club press officer Ian McKinley to find out a bit more about the race and their involvement with it.

The Rake Hill Climb takes place each year, this year will be the 87th event of which originally started out to simply see how far up The Rake you could get without falling off. However once people started to do this more and more, it was turned into an actual race.

This week This is Rammy is sponsored by Hearts for Homes

This week’s episode of this is Rammy is sponsored by Hearts for Homes, the local gift and home décor shop that’s the perfect way to add a personal and unique touch to your home. Not only that, you can pick up artwork by Stuart Barkley!

This week is one of the rare interviews that I’ve conducted in my house but as Stuart lives not far from me it made sense, also it’s not so easy to find somewhere quiet enough that’s public.

If you don’t know who Start Barkley is, you’ll soon know a lot more. Stuart works for Clark Craft and has painted and drawn all over this town, in a totally legal way not like some pothole daubing radical.

Welcome to another episode of This is Rammy, the podcast for Ramsbottom, it’s events and more importantly it’s people. Glad you could join me once more. This week I’m talking about the discussions that have popped up regaring Bridge Street since it’s recent closure for emergency repairs to the gas pipes. Could Pedestrianisation of Bridge Street work?

After several weeks, Bridge Street has reopened, but did this bring with it cheers of glee and dancing in the street? Not exactly, far more references to the poor workmanship based on the patching up of the surface. The tarmac was apparently going to be resurfaced but it would seem that either they forgot or ran out of time or money or both.

I can sympathise though, as you’re damned if you do and damned if you don’t. There were even some people who were calling for Bridge Street to be pedestrianised.

What do you think of the potential pedestrianisation of Bridge Street?
Would you like to see this happen?
Could it even work?

I want to start the conversation, and not just shouting back and forth about why it’s a great idea or why it’s a terrible idea, lets have some good honest debate as you’re the best one to voice it.

This week on the podcast I speak to Elizabeth Dunn who for the second time at The Theatre Royal will be directing a play, her first being Sherlock Holmes earlier in the year.

As well as directing and acting, Elizabeth has a family, a fulltime job as well as a creative flair for miniature creations which she has sold at markets such as Bolton in the past.
