Welcome to This is Rammy, your sometimes weekly source for all things Ramsbottom in an audible form.

Well I don’t know about you but I’ve had to get that heating cranked up this week, hasn’t it gone cold. One thing for sure, we are well and truly on our way to cosy nights in or even wrapped up social nights out.

This episode I’m talking about one of our favourite things around here in Ramsbottom, no, not walking, drinking real ale or complaining about potholes, I’m talking food. More specifically I’m talking about an article that was recently published in Lancashire Life titled “Instagram for foodies”.

If you’re unfamiliar with Instagram, I can sum it up as being an image based social media platform where it’s users tend to gravitate towards food. If you’re not a follower of the This is Rammy Instagram page, now would be a great time for us to connect.

I’m going to try my very best to explain some of what I can see in these Instagram accounts, if you’re reading this on the website you’ll have the benefit of being able to follow along.

The article in Lancashire Life highlighted some of our more obvious local eateries in the forms of the Eagle and Child, Lolos and Levanter to name just three however it did also help to shine the light on some smaller culinary clever dicks such as Grind and Tamp and even creative cake makers with The Naptime Baker. Seriously, check out the cakes on the Naptime Bakers page, they’re amazing and I really can’t do them justice in words.

Two easy ways to save money on East Lancs Railway – Episode 79

It’s been a chilly week in Ramsbottom giving us a taste of what’s to come as we slowly slip out of Autumn and towards Winter. The Christmas trees on each business are lit on Bridge Street and everything on TV certainly has a very festive theme, even the John Lewis advert is out now. I’ve not seen it yet, something to do with a dog and a trampoline.

This week I managed to find time to visit the new coffee shop Drinc as well as take a wander up to Peel Tower and finally get myself a residents permit for the railway.

Drinc, which is situated in the old Barclays Bank building at the bottom of Bridge Street is situated in close proximity to the train station as well as being two doors down from long time Ramsbottom Coffee Shop Cultured Bean.

I popped in on my day off to check it out, now I will provide a review on the website soon but on the podcast I provide a sample of the ambience of Drinc.

Bleakholt Animal Sanctuary, having originally set up by Olive Lomas after saving a donkey named Maude from slaughter; Bleakholt is now one of the largest animal sanctuaries of it’s kind in the North West.

Since moving to Edenfield in 1957; just a few miles outside of Ramsbottom, Bleakholt has grown and now boasts a 55 acre site on which it provides care for over 450 animals.

Whilst I was there I saw chickens, goats, pigs, horses, rabbits and naturally dogs amongst them.

I caught up with one of the dog walkers Chris Taylor to find out a bit more about Bleakholt itself and what is coming up for them.

It’s my family’s two year anniversary of moving to Ramsbottom, and it’s been an eventful one so far. I’ve been to many festivals, our son learnt to walk and talk, we’ve got to meet some fantastic people, drink some fantastic drink and eat some fantastic food. I started this podcast and won an award for it (which I’m still surprised about to this day.)

So, I guess to sum up, thanks for welcoming us into your town.

Speaking of awards and fantastic food, did you see that both Levanter and The Eagle and Child picked up awards at this year’s Manchester Food and Drink awards?

Yes Glen Duckets Eagle and Child picked up Best Food Pub of the Year and Levanter came away with Neighbourhood Restaurant of the year. Two fantastic awards for two very well deserving places.

EagleandChildAwardsGlen might need to rethink where he’s going to keep all his awards though as they really are stacking up on his window sill.

This weekend I headed over to The Rake for The Rake Hill Climb, took a walk through Tagg Wood and could finally celebrate a win for Ramsbottom United.

I managed to do about an hour or so of Facebook Live footage of The Rake Hill climb today, that’s still available on the This is Rammy pages:

Rake Hill Climb Awards Ceremony

It was quite a long day, took around 3 or so hours from the start of the race for the last cyclist to cross the finish line, number 120. I forget his name but Ian tells me he’s the pro.

Speaking of Ian, I managed to catch up with him to find how his ride went.
