It’s sort of a tradition amongst Podcasters to do something slightly different for their episode 100, so for the episode 100 of This is Rammy I’m going to take you to three places in Ramsbottom.

The They are The East Lancashire Railway Station, Nuttall Park by the River and Bridge Street on a quiet Sunday afternoon. Just a few of the places I think help to provide sounds of Ramsbottom.

The crazy thing is, I thought this moment would be a great grand point in the podcast but it’s actually ended up giving me a case of “Podcasters Block”. That is now put to rest, and it’s onwards and upwards from here.

I hope you like this break away from the regular podcast and that you come back with episode 101 where I’ll have another interview with a member of our fantastic community.

Thanks for sticking with the podcast for so long, especially in these past few months where I’ve been otherwise engaged with the birth of my daughter, caught up in the enormity of an “episode 100” and other things that get in the way of producing the podcast.

I first heard of Grape to Grain back in 2016 when they opened up in Prestwich, but as I rarely visit that town, I’d never paid it too much thought.

Fast forward to 2017 and when I heard that they were coming to Ramsbottom, naturally my interest was piqued, so I got in touch via Twitter to offer up an interview, as naturally, I like to get to know the local businesses and it’s a great opportunity for you, the listener to learn about them too.

Not only did they get back to me straight away but just four days later I would be in the old Weale and Hitchen building with Tom Sneesby, co-owner of Grape to Grain.

Christmas Tree Festival 2017 with Dundee United Reformed Church – Episode 98

We’re well known for putting on fantastic events and festivals here in Ramsbottom, but have you heard of the Ramsbottom Christmas Tree Festival? This event is starting on the 1st of December down at Dundee United Reformed Church.

Local shops and businesses will provide a Christmas tree to Dundee United Reformed Church decorated in their own style. There will be raffles for some fantastic prizes and money raised will go towards Speakeasy Ramsbottom which is a specialist aphasia charity based in Ramsbottom.

It starts on Friday the 1st of December and the Mayor will be opening up at 1pm on that day.

Ramsbottom Park Upgrades – Episode 97

Ramsbottom is a town that is constantly going through changes, and with the large turnover of visitors to the town it’s no surprise that some of the facilities start to get a bit worn.

This episode I’m talking about some of the recent changes to Nuttall Park and more so Top Park.

Now back in July 2015 I wrote that Top Park was overdue an upgrade as it had fallen into disrepair. Little did I know that the park itself had more or less been in need of renovation for many years.

I was pleased to be able to write just back in September 2017 that those works appeared to have started. I’m now very pleased to announce that they’ve pretty much finished. Albeit that they need to clear away some rubble and plop some new grass here and there. All the equipment seems to be finished.

On the one hand, it’s fairly frustrating with regards to Top Park that it’s taken so long for this work to be completed, but on the other we have some lovely new equipment. Swings and roundabouts really. No really, there are Swings and Roundabouts.

This week I had the honor of being able to interview the fantastic Neil Arthur of the band Blancmange. This came around as Blancmange are playing Darwen Library in October.

If you are just “tuning in” for the Neil Arthur interview, to give you a little bit of background about the podcast, This is Rammy was started in 2014 as a means of sharing some of the fantastic things that go on in and around my town of Ramsbottom.

I’m a Ramsbottom resident and I produce this podcast to help spread the word, which you can help by sharing this episode with your friends, family and anyone you might happen to meet on the street.

Where Blancmange will be playing in Darwen is at it’s shortest driving route just 10 miles from Ramsbottom and you can get there in under 30 minutes by car.
