This week I had the honor of being able to interview the fantastic Neil Arthur of the band Blancmange. This came around as Blancmange are playing Darwen Library in October.
If you are just “tuning in” for the Neil Arthur interview, to give you a little bit of background about the podcast, This is Rammy was started in 2014 as a means of sharing some of the fantastic things that go on in and around my town of Ramsbottom.
I’m a Ramsbottom resident and I produce this podcast to help spread the word, which you can help by sharing this episode with your friends, family and anyone you might happen to meet on the street.
Where Blancmange will be playing in Darwen is at it’s shortest driving route just 10 miles from Ramsbottom and you can get there in under 30 minutes by car.

You might remember Blancmange from the 80’s but they have had a few albums since their bigger hits, I got a chance to discuss the new album Unfurnished Rooms with Neil having been able to listen to a pre-release copy earlier this week.
I really enjoyed it and have genuinely listened to the album multiple times from start to finish which I was slightly surprised at.
I’m not usually one for electronic music but there is a great mixture of styles on this album and Neil really does have a way of making the mundane more interesting.
My three favourite tracks from the new album for various reasons are:
- We are the Chemicals
- What’s the time (which sounds a lot like Funky Ford Cortina)
- Anna Dine
Blancmange play the Darwen Library Theatre on October the 25th 2017
You can pre-order the album Unfurnished Rooms on Amazon.
Ramsbottom United News:
Ramsbottom United have made a decent start to the season with one win and two draws so far against some tough competition both home and away.
Jerome Wright has taken no time in his mark for the Rams since joining from Altrincham this year. We’re signed some exceptional players this season and we are on course to make a big impact in the league. I for one am excited by what’s to come.
A massive shout out to all the Rammy Ultras who made the epic journey to Colwyn Bay the other week too, a massive effort for all involved, especially given the coach got back to Ramsbottom at around 3am. Well, we do have the best fans in the league after all.
I’d also like to wish a huge happy 70th birthday to the one and only Frank “the Jacket”, the club photographer.
