Ramsbottom United bow out of FA Trophy, but my, how they did us proud!

February 12, 2019 by Lee Leave a Comment

It started back in October, a win against Trafford. 2-1, a good win, but little did we know at the time how far we would go.

Ramsbottom United, our Ramsbottom United, the little team sitting on the bank of the River Irwell, often the underdogs, would progress this far in the FA Trophy.

We host matches on soggy pitches, with borrowed lights, borrowed stands, hot drinks in real mugs and Rammy Ultras singing out loud.

Ramsbottom United, have done us proud. Never before have we progressed as far as we did this year. To travel as far as Weymouth, where some would have predicted our journey would have ended, but no, we kept our heads up and came away with an amazing win. We were in the news, on the radio and on TV.

After 12 matches though, it came to an end. Against a team, three leagues above us, but not three leagues in quality. Several times we created chances, and we truly gave it our all.

AFC Fylde 4, Ramsbottom United 1.

Our hearts may be heavy, but we should all be proud of that little club, from the banks of the River Irwell, with our borrowed lights, borrowed stands with echos of songs and chants of “Come on you Rams!”

Further details regarding Santander branch closure

January 26, 2019 by Lee 3 Comments

You’ll no doubt have seen or heard the news recently that Santander, currently the last remaining bank in Ramsbottom is to close.

This was reported in The Bury Times as well as other media outlets.

In the last few days, letters have started to arrive through customers doors.

It’s a shame that these letters are arriving after the news was broken via other means, but I can understand that they want to try to manage the publicity on this.

I’ve pulled out some of the information and documents regarding this closure below as well as identifying that the document created regarding the closures was done so in December.

Ramsbottom set for month long freeze

January 18, 2019 by Lee Leave a Comment

Ramsbottom is to be hit with snow and ice which will last a month as temperatures plunge to what could feel like -17C!

At least, that’s what some sources would have you believe.

Yet again, tabloids are making audacious claims that we can expect to be in for freezing snow which will last up to a month.

Headlines such as this from the Mirror:

UK weather forecast: SNOW to cover Britain ‘for a month’ as deep freeze hits

and

UK SNOW: Arctic weather system sparks HEAVY SNOW today as Britain set for COLDEST weekend

from The Express (which lets face it, they have this headline every other week).

The Guardian went with the simple:

UK weather: snow and ice warnings as cold snap forecast

It’s certainly gotten colder but I don’t think we’re about to need to stock up on food or anything. However, we are a community led….community, so do please look out for your elderly and vulnerable neighbours.

Keep warm and enjoy winter as it should be.

Ramsbottom United progress to last 16 of The FA Trophy.

January 15, 2019 by Lee 2 Comments

After a monumental win over Weymouth, Ramsbottom United have tonight done what they’ve never done before, progressed to the last 16 of the FA Trophy.

This was a second leg of Saturday’s match where we hosted Weymouth at The Riverside. This ended in a 2-2 draw in dramatic fashion after a last minute equaliser from substitute Iyrwah Gooden. After the long journey down, where some of the Ramsbottom United players drove themselves down, the Rams had the perfect start with an own goal by Weymouth after just 32 minutes from a cross by Tom Kennedy.

Rossendale Radio, same name, same frequency, new station!

December 21, 2018 by Lee Leave a Comment

Have you been listening to the radio recently?

Maybeyou stumbled across the test transmissions emanating from the latest audio entertainment for our area?

Rossendale Radio will be returning on Saturday the 22nd of December 2018 at 10:47 am.

However this will not be like your typical community radio station, nor is it the Rossendale Radio of old.

This will be all new and something like we’ve not heard before.

The return…

You might be aware, or have guessed from the title, that this isn’t the first time Rossendale Radio has been on the air. Rossendale Radio was originally formed back in May 2010 but in March of 2012, due to a variety of issues; ceased broadcasting.

The passion was never lost though, because with a dedicated a team of individuals working hard to get the station back on air, including a number of the original team; it has a new lease of life.

“Heartbreakingly Sad” were the words that then volunteer presenter Peter Sweetmore used to describe the closing of Rossendale Radio back in 2012, now Peter is Chairman of the station and has a score to settle.

A great location for the station.

Situated in Hardmans Business Centre in nearby town Rawtenstall, the location allows for coverage well into some areas of Ramsbottom and further (even as far as Bolton).

Hardmans Business Centre – Google Streetview

You can listen right now on 104.7fm, online via the Rossendale Radio website even on smart speakers such as the Amazon Echo or via apps such as Tune-In.

Speaking to Tony Horne, joint Station Director he said: “This is an amazing opportunity for the people and businesses in the valley, at a time when local radio is all but dead, here comes a radio station that is going to over deliver on its community.”

With regards to what to expect Tony went on to say:

“Exciting programming, different shows and affordable commercial opportunities for businesses, we know that we are building a dream that will outlive us all. We cannot wait for you to hear Rossendale Radio”.

The whole team have been dedicated to this moment and tomorrow will see it be realised.

Well done to all involved as I know it’s been a huge effort and labour of love.

Don’t forget to tune in on Saturday at 10:47 am to check out the all new Rossendale Radio.
