Anonymous author spreading joy with mysterious letters

June 27, 2019 by Lee Leave a Comment

“Dear Reader, I don’t want you to know who I am, I want to remain anonymous…” starts the first letter in what so far is a series of three.

Letters are popping up in Ramsbottom, created by an anonymous author who only goes by the moniker: iwriteletterstopeople on Instagram.

The letters talk about the author not knowing how they can make a difference to the world, and that writing these letters might be one way.

The first letter was discovered on the Bridge over the River Irwell on the way into Nuttall Park on the 25th of June.

Since then two more have appeared, both again in or around Nuttall Park. The second on the 26th of June, the third on the 27th.

“Open Me” say the envelopes, and the finder that does is greeted by a well written letter of joy and encouragement.

I don’t know who the author is, they’ve indicated that they are only 18 years old, but they’re kind of like a literary Banksy. Created in secret, planned and hidden for someone to find.

Well, literary Banksy, if you’re reading this, I like your approach and bravery. Using something as simple as pen and paper to make a difference, no matter how small.

Britain’s biggest professional cycle race will return to Greater Manchester for the first time in 15 years this September as all 10 of the city’s boroughs feature in the final stage on Saturday 14 September.

Don’t miss this cycle race tearing up Ramsbottoms Rake on the 14th of September. There are more than a few cycle enthusiasts who will no doubt be out checking this out.

If you don’t know about “The Rake” in Ramsbottom, it’s the steepest hill in Ramsbottom connecting between Ramsbottom and Holcombe.

Each year there is a race up The Rake organised by Lancashire Road Club every Autumn.

I spoke to Lancashire Road Club press officer Ian McKinley back in 2016

No doubt there will be a real buzz around the town on the day, hoping for some great weather too! 😎 🚴‍♀️ 🔔

Coffee lovers of Ramsbottom, we’re doing it all wrong!

May 25, 2019 by Lee Leave a Comment

Ramsbottom has several great places to get coffee, from cafés and restaurants to dedicated coffee establishments such as Grind and Tamp.

This would suggest that we’re a town that loves our coffee, right?

That’s great, because according to a meta-analysis of 127 studies, drinking coffee:

  • reduces your risk of cancer up to 20 percent;
  • reduces your risk of heart disease by 5 percent;
  • reduces your risk of Type 2 diabetes by 30 percent; and
  • reduces your risk of Parkinson’s disease by 30 percent.

Well, this week I was a little surprised to learn that after years of using caffeine to kick start my day, apparently I was doing it all wrong, and you might be too.

For those inquisitive types, essentially there’s a part of your brain called the suprachiasmatic nucleus (SCN). This is in charge releasing cortisol (the stress hormone).

Update: Resolved Power Cut affects many areas of Bury

March 24, 2019 by Lee Leave a Comment

Update: Electricity North West are now reporting the issue as resolved on Twitter, however it appears to have disappeared from their website.

Update #BL8 #Bury, we have now restored all supplies, thank you for your patience – Nette

— ElectricityNorthWest (@ElectricityNW) March 24, 2019

It’s a nightmare scenario, you’re just about to sit down with your tea to watch Antiques Roadshow when the world goes dark!

No, this isn’t a Brexit scenario (although if you’re to believe some information, this could be on the cards in the future). What’s happened is the power has gone out. Here on my road it was only off for less than a second (however this happened three times), but it was enough to reset most of the digital clocks in the house.
