Summerseat Players clear up at Manchester Drama Federation Awards 2019

July 12, 2019 by Lee 1 Comment

Girls Like That by Evan Placey won Best Production

We are very lucky here in Ramsbottom, not only do we have many fantastic restaurants, but we have a fantastic local amateur theatre group the Summerseat Players.

If you’ve not heard of Summerseat Players before they’re based at the Theatre Royal on Smithy Street in Ramsbottom. I actually spoke to Stephen Gill back in January 2016 and Elizabeth Dunn in August 2016 of Summerseat Players.

Summerseat Players enjoyed fantastic success at this year’s Greater Manchester Drama Federation (GMDF) Awards which took place at the Last Drop Village Hotel last Saturday.

Things just got serious with the release of the fixtures for this upcoming years football season for Ramsbottom United as announced on the Ramsbottom United website.

Woodhey High School gains in Real Schools Guide 2019

July 9, 2019 by Lee Leave a Comment

One of the reasons my family moved to Ramsbottom was for the schools. Having a young family we knew that eventually we would need to look at schools and we knew that Ramsbottom was well served.

I’m reassured by this years data for the Real Schools Guide. For the past seven years this data has been collected and compiled, and I’m happy to say this year it flies in the face of last years Ofsted report for Woodhey.

The ratings are compiled from 50 different measurements collected together from publicly available data. You can find out more about the specifics of this data here.

What roads will be closed in Ramsbottom for Ironman UK?

July 7, 2019 by Lee 1 Comment

No no no, it’s not the Ironman in the image above, Ironman UK is the premier full distance race in the United Kingdom.

It involves a 2.4 mile swim in Pennington Flash, a 112 mile bike ride through Lancashire and a 26.2 mile marathon to the finish in Bolton town centre.

There’s been a few questions related to what roads are going to be closed around Ramsbottom on the upcoming Ironman event on Sunday the 14th of July.

If you weren’t aware of the event, it’s not your fault, there have been a few people who weren’t aware too, hence this post.

So, to try to assist I’ve picked out the roads and streets in Ramsbottom that will be affected from the Bury Council Website.

Road closures and one-way restrictions – Sunday 14 July between 7am and 3pm:

  • Lumb Carr Road, Ramsbottom – full length
  • Helmshore Road, Ramsbottom – Lumb Carr Road to borough boundary
  • Bolton Road, Ramsbottom (Eastbound only) – Ramsbottom Road to Bolton Road West
  • Bolton Road West, Ramsbottom (Eastbound only) – Bolton Road to Lumb Carr Road

No parking or waiting at any time from 7pm on Saturday 13 July to 3pm on Sunday 14 July:

  • Bolton Road West, Ramsbottom – Bolton Road to Lumb Carr Road
  • Lumb Carr Road, Ramsbottom – full length
  • Helmshore Road, Ramsbottom – Lumb Carr Road to the borough boundary
  • Chapel Lane, Ramsbottom

Keep in mind:

  • Access for emergency vehicles will be maintained at all times.
  • Essential access for carers will be facilitated. Please contact uk@ironmanroadaccess.com or 03330 116600
  • Pedestrians can cross the course at any time when it is safe to do so.

Here’s a PDF plan of the route including closures and crossing points.

Anonymous author spreading joy with mysterious letters

June 27, 2019 by Lee Leave a Comment

“Dear Reader, I don’t want you to know who I am, I want to remain anonymous…” starts the first letter in what so far is a series of three.

Letters are popping up in Ramsbottom, created by an anonymous author who only goes by the moniker: iwriteletterstopeople on Instagram.

The letters talk about the author not knowing how they can make a difference to the world, and that writing these letters might be one way.

The first letter was discovered on the Bridge over the River Irwell on the way into Nuttall Park on the 25th of June.

Since then two more have appeared, both again in or around Nuttall Park. The second on the 26th of June, the third on the 27th.

“Open Me” say the envelopes, and the finder that does is greeted by a well written letter of joy and encouragement.

I don’t know who the author is, they’ve indicated that they are only 18 years old, but they’re kind of like a literary Banksy. Created in secret, planned and hidden for someone to find.

Well, literary Banksy, if you’re reading this, I like your approach and bravery. Using something as simple as pen and paper to make a difference, no matter how small.
