Welcome to This is Rammy, I’ve got a fantastic interview this week with local restaurant owner Mellissa Brown of The Mouse Trap.

When we first moved to Ramsbottom me and my family had always stared in wonder at the ever increasing sign that was outside The Mouse Trap with the earliest dates available to book for their cheese and wine nights. One day, we thought, we’ll book and get on that list.

Then, a year or so later and a renovation happened, and the set massively future dates for bookings seemed to go away. This is when we learned that the new owner was Mellissa Brown, also known as “Gareth Seddons Girlfriend” but I wanted to get away from this image as The Mouse Trap is very firmly Mellissa’s business and her passion.

[spp-tweet tweet=”Me: Did you know much about wine before? Mellissa: I’d drank a lot of wine.”]

Over the course of the interview I came to realise that this isn’t “just a day job for Gavs girlfriend” but is firmly something that Mellissa loves to do. She is as enthusiastic about cheese as she is hosting. Which given she owns a cheese restaurant is very fitting.

Gary Neville visits The Mouse Trap

After the interview Mellissa let me in on a secret, that The Mouse Trap was going to be having a very special guest on Friday. That special guest being Gary Neville, ex Manchester United player and current football pundit. I promised Mellissa I’d keep schtum, despite the fact I wanted to tell the world.

I hope you enjoy this week’s interview episode of the podcast, I’ve got a few more coming up in the weeks to come.

Ramsbottom Police Station plans and how a Banana made a difference – Episode 86

Welcome to This is Rammy, the podcast dedicated to Ramsbottom, the small town just North of Manchester.

The plans for Ramsbottom Police Station have been approved. The application is for two ground floor shops as well as eight apartments above. The style is mentioned to be in keeping with how the area would have originally looked.

If you remember, the person who purchased the land in February last year when the Police Station was auctioned off was our very own Councillor Rob Hodkinson and his wife.

One comment that Rob said back in November 2015 as written in Bury Times was:

But Ramsbottom MP David Nuttall and Ramsbottom ward councillors Ian Bevan and Rob Hodkinson have raised concerns about the plans to sell the building, fearing a rise in crime if there is no police presence in the town.

How do you feel about this? I was looking at the planning permission and reading through the comments, several people have complained about the drainage on the current site as well as several people complaining about the fact the proposed building will be much bigger than the existing bank.

Work has already started on Ramsbottom Police Station

Blackout causes outbreak of candles in Ramsbottom – 0:36

Welcome to This is Rammy, the podcast about Ramsbottom and the surrounding area where the power has returned! No, not me, the power to Ramsbottom. If you’re a resident of the local area you’ll no doubt be aware that Ramsbottom suffered a large power cut on Thursday the 19th of January due to a high voltage fault at an electricity substation near to Ramsbottom Train Station.

Eyewitnesses, (or maybe that should be earwitnesses) reported hearing a loud bang before being plunged into darkness. Fear and panic quickly spread around the town with reports of some people buying up all of the packets of Haribo from ALDI and some reports from unknown sources of people turning to cannibalism. Not really, just checking you were paying attention.

Local fire crews were on hand to divert traffic from Bridge Street causing large tailbacks and diversions around the area. My sons nursery was forced to evacuate for safety reasons leaving staff and children in the cold singing songs by torchlight to keep their spirits up until parents arrived.

The power was off from approximately twenty past four in the afternoon until six forty five. Rush hour, not the best time for it to happen, but when is there a good time for an emergency such as this?

Local establishments such as Irwell Works were forced to breakout the candles, luckily for them they are a regular addition to the ambiance of a night in The Brewery, so they were on hand.

Ad: Wait! Before you move on. You, yes YOU can advertise on This is Rammy from as little as £10, all you need to do is get in touch with me and we can work out how best to get your message out.

A look back at 2016 in Ramsbottom – Episode 83

A first for the podcast this year, and some people release a retrospective view on the previous year before the year is out, not me, with how unpredictable 2016 was I didn’t want to speak to soon and maybe miss aliens landing in St Paul’s gardens or something along those lines.

Now that it actually IS 2017 I’m pretty confident nothing big is going to sneak up on me for the previous year, unless that thing is the invention of time travel!

I’ve rounded up some of the noteable events throughout Ramsbottom in the past year, so buckle up, sit back and take a load off as I go through some things that happened in our small town of Ramsbottom.

2016 will for some be the year that many big celebrities died such as Prince, David Bowie and Alan Rickman. For residents of Ramsbottom it will be remembered for some of the worst flooding to hit the area in living memory. Although the flooding actually happened on boxing day 2015, Ramsbottom was still very much engaged in the clean up operation well into January and some even still to this day have not returned back to normality.

The flooding of the local area brought sadness and misery as well as bringing down The Waterside pub in Summerseat.

Rossendale Free Press – Valley floods one year on – could it happen again?

A Monster Called and Ramsbottom answered – A Monster Calls comes out on January 1st

December 25, 2016 by Lee Leave a Comment

Trucks for Camera Crew

A couple of years back (October 2014 to be exact) Hollywood came to Ramsbottom in the form of a movie studio filming scenes for A Monster Calls. There was much fervor around the town with rumours of Liam Neeson due to show up with Sigourney Weaver in tow. In addition to shops being asked to leave their lights on in the evening to make it appear as though the town were still awake we had crowds of locals turn up to hopefully get a glimpse of Liam Neeson amongst other stars.

Well, I honestly don’t think Liam Neeson visited us, mainly because his part in the film appears to be voiceover only (not that I’ve seen it yet, but judging from the trailers he’s just the voice of The Monster).
