Local resident Chris Dixon wanted to share his journey with Bury Adult Learning with me and ultimately, you.
Originally, Chris just wanted to post something on the Facebook page, but after chatting with him a little via Facebook Messenger, I felt it would be better to share his story a little here.
Chris got in touch to share how courses such as a confidence course provided by Bury Adult Learning has helped him to face and learn to manage his anxiety issues and gain confidence in day to day life.
Surprisingly, Bury Adult Learning Service also provide courses on mindfulness as well as meditation and relaxation techniques.
In addition to the positive mental changes that Chris has made, it resulted in a positive physical change too. If you can believe it, Chris managed to shed 4 stones with this improved lifestyle.
Chris explained that he would never have done anything like this last year, or whilst he was having issues. He never spoke about his past issues and ultimately didn’t do anything about them. One thing that he realised was to achieve a positive outcome, you need to make a positive change.
“Whether it is mental health / addiction or both there is support out there. I know this as I sought the help I needed. You are not alone. Day by Day keep chipping away.”Chris Dixon
Chris hasn’t lived in Ramsbottom very long, but he’s already thrown himself into some of the local groups, he helps to clean up our town with Litter Picking Ramsbottom and has been a regular member of RammyMen since January this year. He’s distributed leaflets, helped where he can and taken part in charity work. One of the things I have always said about Ramsbottom is you get out of it what you put into it, and Chris is a shining example of that.
Regarding Bury Adult Learning Services, I had a quick look at what courses are available, and I was surprised to see just how many are FREE. There’s even baking classes! Maybe you’ll be the next Star Baker?🍰 😉
Bury Adult Learning recorded a video with Chris where he explains a bit about how they helped him.
If you’ve considered taking a course in the past, it would certainly be worth taking a look at the courses on offer at Bury Adult Learning Service.
