Positive Changes with Bury Adult Learning Service

October 3, 2019 by Lee 1 Comment

Local resident Chris Dixon wanted to share his journey with Bury Adult Learning with me and ultimately, you.

Originally, Chris just wanted to post something on the Facebook page, but after chatting with him a little via Facebook Messenger, I felt it would be better to share his story a little here.

Chris got in touch to share how courses such as a confidence course provided by Bury Adult Learning has helped him to face and learn to manage his anxiety issues and gain confidence in day to day life.

Surprisingly, Bury Adult Learning Service also provide courses on mindfulness as well as meditation and relaxation techniques.

In addition to the positive mental changes that Chris has made, it resulted in a positive physical change too. If you can believe it, Chris managed to shed 4 stones with this improved lifestyle.

A September without Head for the Hills…..

September 13, 2019 by Lee Leave a Comment

This weekend would most likely have been the weekend that Head for the Hills (originally Ramsbottom Festival) would have hit our town with music, food, arts and family friendly entertainment.

If you’re not familiar, Head for the Hills had taken place in Ramsbottom since 2011 with previous headliners such as The Boomtown Rats, Maxïmo Park, Fun Lovin’ Criminals, Inspiral Carpets and Sinead O’Connor to name just a few.

It also featured arts, international acts, emerging UK talent and local heroes.

Is it time Ramsbottom had a book shop?

Ramsbottom Waterstones Mock-up
If Ramsbottom had a Waterstones

I’ve interviewed many people for the podcast in the past and one of my questions used to be “if Ramsbottom is missing anything, what is it?”.

More than one person in the past had said that Ramsbottom is missing “a bookshop”.

The business person in me has always told myself that a bookshop in this day and age is not viable with the competition of online and the decline in usage and funding of our local libraries.

Possibly I was wrong?

I just read an article on Positive News that states independent book shops opening has grown for the second year after being in decline for 20 years.

What do you think? Do you think a bookshop in Ramsbottom could not only survive, but thrive amongst our cafés, restaurants and coffee shops?

I did list a number of places you can find books in Ramsbottom, but outside of the library, none of them are dedicated to books.

We’re not in Rammy anymore Toto!

October 20, 2016 by Lee Leave a Comment

Unlike Dorothy in The Wizard of Oz I wasn’t transported to another land by means of tornado.

Recently; for the day job I’ve been spending more time on the road as well as in ‘That There London’ and I’ve noticed a few things.

Potentially these observations are because I’m older and more mature. Often known colloquially as “old fart syndrome” but I couldn’t help but notice that people just seemed to be trying to get ANYWHERE but where they were right that minute.

Pedestrianisation of Bridge Street Poll Results

September 10, 2016 by Lee Leave a Comment

Last week I asked the question: “Should Bridge Street be Pedestrianised?”

The results of the poll I asked last week are in and amazingly the result was:pedestrianisation-poll-results

It was very close with 58% of the vote choosing Yes, Bridge Street should be pedestrianised.

Thanks for taking part in the poll, and don’t forget the latest podcast episode is released tomorrow at 10am where interview local artist Stuart Barkley.
