Sam has a bright future planned for The Major

Sam Gibbs and her husband Christian took over The Major in Ramsbottom on the 4th of November and before that happened Sam got in touch and I said I’d love to have her on the show.

Not only is The Major a popular local pub, it’s one of the first pubs I ever went to in Ramsbottom and I know lots of the regulars are keen to see what they have planned.

Ramsbottom Young People’s Community Choir launches

Having launched just last week, the Ramsbottom Young People’s Community Choir is fresh and looking for children to come and have a go.

I talk to Karen Lindop on the podcast this week and she tells me that the Ramsbottom Young People’s Community Choir was created when one of the children basically asked Karen to put it together as she was not old enough to join the adult choir.

Karen tells me that the hope is that the children will be able to join in the performance near Christmas and as such, the sooner you join the quicker you’ll be able to learn the songs.

The choir is for children aged from 7 to 13 and it takes place at St Andrews Church on Tuesday nights during term time from 5:15pm until 6:15pm, you can drop your child off, go have a coffee/wine or even a shop and come back an hour later.

It’s just £6 per session or you can block book 4 sessions for £20.

You can call or TXT Karen on 07957 814 298 or you can email her at [email protected] to get more information.

Visit Ramsbottom with 360 Photography

November 3, 2019 by Lee Leave a Comment

A couple of years ago I spent some time making 360 degree style photos of areas in Ramsbottom. Most of the time I tried to cover areas where Google Street View doesn’t and almost all of the photos I took were when I was taking a walk with my son.

You might notice some familiar places, like Ramsbottom Train Station, House of Beer and Market Place.

You can check out all of my photos here on the Ramsbottom 360 Album which I’ve been adding to over time.

Ramsbottom roadworks could last another two weeks

October 29, 2019 by Lee Leave a Comment

Traffic was snarled up through Ramsbottom this morning causing massive delays and tailbacks due to the temporary lights despite some people saying the lights were pointless as nothing was happening at the time.

Ramsbottom commuters have once again been brought to their knees by temporary lights and roadworks. It’s gotten to the point where I’m pretty sure the lights are just kept in a shed somewhere locally to be brought out in another week or two once these are finished.

One Network states that the roadworks are expected to last until the 15th of November.

Plans for a new bar raises the question, do we need another?

October 22, 2019 by Lee 2 Comments

There’s recently been an application submitted through the Bury Planning Portal (64644) which is open for comments regarding the change of use of the old Dream Doors shop on Bolton Street into a bar: “Change of use of ground floor from shop (Class A1) to drinking establishment (Class A4)”

If you’re unfamiliar with the location, possibly you recognise how it used to look?

I know there are people in the community who are dead against any additional restaurants and bars coming into Ramsbottom. I can also absolutely see their argument. Bars and Restaurants already make up a large percentage of the numbers of businesses in Ramsbottom.

In addition there are a number currently closed, so what would this new bar bring that the others couldn’t?

Ultimately, this would mean that another premises that currently has the use as a “Shop Class A1” being changed to a Bar.

I’d love to know your thoughts, feel free to leave them in the comments section below. You can also have your say on the planning application on the Bury Planning Portal on this link. If that doesn’t work just search for 64644
