Search for mystery artist after 19 year discovery under wallpaper

October 6, 2019 by Lee 2 Comments

It’s not uncommon to discover things whilst going through some home improvements. An old newspaper here, a height chart drawn on a door frame there, or, in this case, a work of art under the wallpaper.

Ramsbottom resident Bobbie Dowding posted to the “What’s on in Ramsbottom” Facebook group asking to help track down a mystery artist:

So my mam has stripped the wall in my sisters room and uncovered this art work 😂 it’s been signed at the bottom right hand corner by ?.Holden. We’ve lived in Ramsbottom since 2000 so she’s curious to find out who painted it all those years ago and hopes that they might see this post, if anyone might know who this is then please tag them 😊

It’s a little tricky to see the signature, but after asking Bobbie, she has provided a better shot, and it looks like R Holden.

I did a little digging into the cartoon piece, and I believe it’s originally from Asterix in Britain:

Are you the mysterious R Holden?

The Rake Hill Climb is back! Yes, it means the road will be closed, no it won’t still be closed on Monday and yes you should stop when it says road closed.

A new business, Wisteria Nails & Beauty opens in Ramsbottom.

Did you manage to get to see Ramsbottom – 200 years in Pictures this weekend? I’m going to try to, with a two year old, so wish me (and the pictures) luck.

Positive Changes with Bury Adult Learning Service

October 3, 2019 by Lee 1 Comment

Local resident Chris Dixon wanted to share his journey with Bury Adult Learning with me and ultimately, you.

Originally, Chris just wanted to post something on the Facebook page, but after chatting with him a little via Facebook Messenger, I felt it would be better to share his story a little here.

Chris got in touch to share how courses such as a confidence course provided by Bury Adult Learning has helped him to face and learn to manage his anxiety issues and gain confidence in day to day life.

Surprisingly, Bury Adult Learning Service also provide courses on mindfulness as well as meditation and relaxation techniques.

In addition to the positive mental changes that Chris has made, it resulted in a positive physical change too. If you can believe it, Chris managed to shed 4 stones with this improved lifestyle.

How many of these Ramsbottom businesses do you remember?

September 26, 2019 by Lee 3 Comments

I was just testing out Bing Streetside which is very much like Google Streetview, but without the level of coverage, quality or recent photos.

So, you’d think with all that, it’s inferior? Well, you’d be right, but look at some of these gems I pulled out from Ramsbottoms recent past.

These photos are all from around 2012, how many do you remember?

Interview with Bury Book Buddies Emma Davies – Episode 151

Emma Davies is someone who after noticing just how many books her children had collected over time realised she’d rather do something a bit different with them than just take them to the charity shop. This was the start of Bury Book Buddies.

Emma had saw something similar in Cumbria called “West Cumbria Look for a Book“, but Bury Book Buddies certainly has a nice ring to it.

In the episode I chat to her about where she hides books, what books she likes herself and about recently being nominated for a Pride of Bury award (sadly it looks like she just missed out on the finals) and also how to get involved with Bury Book Buddies.
