Swings and roundabouts, Nuttall Park gets a revamp

June 18, 2016 by Lee Leave a Comment

Nuttall Park

The largest and arguably best park in Ramsbottom had a couple of upgrades to the play area earlier this month.

The additions include a seesaw, large tee-pee style roundabout and a trampoline floor.

Me and my son had a go on the various items the other day, but we were having too much fun to remember to take any photos, thankfully the This is Rammy audience were on top form and shared their photos with me (at the end of this post).

If you’ve never been to Nuttall Park before, it’s a very central park in Ramsbottom with the River Irwell running through it as well as the East Lancs Railway line towards Bury.

What was it Wednesday

June 16, 2016 by Lee Leave a Comment

No More What is it WednesdayUnfortunately I have decided to end What is it Wednesday.

After a year’s worth of “guess the place or thing” around Ramsbottom with What is it Wednesday I’ve decided that it just doesn’t work well enough on social media to make it easy for you to play.

The main reason for this is that Facebook doesn’t necessarily show you the clues in the correct order. For example if clue2 got popular, even though I’ve already revealed the answer people may still be getting presented with the first clue.

There is also the issue with Twitter where I had to submit the post several times, however due to it’s more flowing nature, I had less of a problem with this than I do with Facebook.

In addition to those problems, it’s a lot of work to create something that is not easy to play, which sadly means I’ve made the decision to end it so I can use that time elsewhere.

I’ll still be doing #throwbackthursday each week as these are easier to implement but I’m afraid the 15th of June was the last What is it Wednesday.

Thanks to everyone who played each week, especially Anne and Michelle who were always first to have a guess and generally got it right each time.

Thanks for the fun and helping me to enjoy our town,

Lee

This week in Ramsbottom we’ve had some drama on Tanners Street with the road opening up and threatening to swallow anything that wants to get anywhere too close to it. Yes, we had a sinkhole on Tanners.

Thankfully the “Road Closed” signs were obeyed and cars used alternative routes… Well, of course not, people were still driving up and around Tanners bringing with it more risk to the road and safety of others.

That road is a nightmare at the best of times. It’s a 20Mph road with people flying past like they’re at Silverstone, some people really need to consider other people at times. I’m glad we didn’t move onto that road, we had looked at a house on Tanners at the time, the house was lovely but with a young child I really didn’t like how busy the road was right outside the door.

This is a podcast episode, dont forget to click play above.

Hopefully the road works are completed soon but currently it looks like it’s going to be well over a week before it gets completed.

The 2016 Audience Survey

June 11, 2016 by Lee 2 Comments

Let me know written on a sticky noteEvery year I ask if you could take my survey so that I can make sure I’m on target to satisfy your interests.

This is Rammy is a big part of my life and I want to ensure that the time I spend working on it goes some way towards informing or entertaining you, hopefully both.

Based on your survey answers I focus my limited time more towards what you want to see/hear meaning you can get more out of This is Rammy without me wasting time and effort on parts which just don’t resonate with you.

With that in mind, if you’ve not yet completed this years survey I would really appreciate if you could fill it out.

So far I’ve had a great response and I’ve already started to take ideas from it on how I can greater serve you but I’d really like your answers too so that I can be sure I’ve got everyone covered.

You can find this years survey here. There are 10 questions in the survey but you can skip any that don’t apply and it will still be useful but obviously the more questions you can answer the better. It should only take around 5 minutes to complete and it’s completely anonymous.

Thanks for your time, and I look forward to getting your answers.

Sinkhole appears on Tanners Street

June 9, 2016 by Lee 2 Comments

On the morning of Thursday the 9th if June a large sinkhole appeared in the middle of the cross section between Tanners Street and Rostron Road.

It’s believed the cause of this is likely due to heavy rain and flash floods in the past 24 hours.

Early reports suggest the work could continue to repair the sinkhole on until the 13th if June but this could extend once more investigation is done into the cause of the sinkhole.

Residents are being forced to park on side roads but parking has always been a premium on Tanners Street.

This is Rammy  understands a car was towed away earlier when the owner was unable to be contacted so that roadworks could begin.

I have since been informed that the owner of the car was located and was able to move it before it was towed away.

The car was sitting directly on the hole.
