Ramsbottom Privets Attack Unarmed Pedestrians

August 31, 2016 by Lee 1 Comment

If you were ever under the illusion that Ramsbottom wasn’t subject to council cuts simply take a look at the hazard on Silver Street near Princess Court.

The two pictures here were taken on Tuesday the 30th of August 2016 at around 5pm. These bushes forced me and my son to walk in the street as we were heading towards Morrison’s.

If it’s not the shoddy job that was the patching up of Bridge Street after the gas pipe upgrades or the tremendous number of ever increasing potholes; both in number and size it’s the terrible upkeep of our pavements.

I don’t know if you feel the same but I’m sick of the lack of attention our facilities receive now. I’d go out there and trim it myself if I didn’t think I’d end up with some bill or fine from the council or they’d actually expect the public to always do it.

I just wish they would pull their fingers out and put our tax money back into the services that it’s supposed to be for.

Sure, this is potentially an over-ranty post, but there is only so many times we can go on smiling and accepting that we’re paying for services that are not being provided.

This week on the podcast I speak to Elizabeth Dunn who for the second time at The Theatre Royal will be directing a play, her first being Sherlock Holmes earlier in the year.

As well as directing and acting, Elizabeth has a family, a fulltime job as well as a creative flair for miniature creations which she has sold at markets such as Bolton in the past.

We’re just one month away from the biggest and best festival in the North West. My job this weekend is to give you a bit of background around the headline bands, and to give you a bit of a look into just what you might be able to expect this year. Also before I forget, you might recognise the artwork for this years festival as being fairly familiar, well that would be because it’s our very own local graphic designer Adam Rowlinsons handywork. Nice one Adam.

Keep in mind that these are not the full final lineups yet, there is more due to come. It’s likely a combination of dotting the i’s crossing the t’s and making sure that there is a sufficient supply of green M&M’s on the rider. So here we go, let’s jump straight into the lineup on day one as it has been presented so far.

Ramsbottom was on high alert after a large ball of fire was seen in the sky. It hung there throughout the day bringing warmth and causing people to leave the house without a coat. Naturally I’m referring to the fact that the sun came out in Ramsbottom, which in recent months is a rarity, and it didn’t even rain!

The sun was likely much welcomed at the wedding I witnessed going on at St Paul’s Church (I can only imagine what this Bride thought when they heard of the news that Bridge Street would be closed for their happy day. Check out the photo of the car on the show notes.) If all that didn’t have you skipping slightly as you walked down the streets, it was also Thomas the Tank Engine weekend on the East Lancs Railway.

You might be out enjoying Northern Grip festival today, but you would have had to have been living under a rock to have not heard the words Pokemon and Go uttered together in the past few weeks. The game has not only taken the world by storm, it’s also taken Ramsbottom by storm. How do I know this? Well, I was out in Ramsbottom *cough* researching Pokemon Go when I came across a group of lads playing it, then I turned the corner, and what seemed to be the whole of the smoking corner from the Grey Mare were playing.

I did have a fairly scary encounter, I was heading towards St Andrews Church, which if you’re not aware is a Pokemon Gym (essentially a place where you can take control of it for your team). It was dark, and I was alone. I rounded the corner to be met by around 6 glowing lights all heading towards me. No, it wasn’t a supernatural encounter, it turned out, I wasn’t the only one headed to St Andrew’s Church that night to play Pokemon Go.

Slightly changed image. Still Pokemon Go players from last night.
