July 11, 2019 by Lee Leave a Comment

It’s time to go to battle…

Things just got serious with the release of the fixtures for this upcoming years football season for Ramsbottom United as announced on the Ramsbottom United website.

Here’s the list, get yourself comfortable, it’s a big one. I’ve taken the list from the Ramsbottom United website and broken it down into League and Cup matches. Where you see there’s an option of both on a particular date, they’re in both lists. Home matches are italicised and they’re in date order.

League Matches:

Sat Aug 17 Widnes H
Tue Aug 20 Pickering Town A
Mon Aug 26 Trafford H

Woodhey High School gains in Real Schools Guide 2019

July 9, 2019 by Lee Leave a Comment

One of the reasons my family moved to Ramsbottom was for the schools. Having a young family we knew that eventually we would need to look at schools and we knew that Ramsbottom was well served.

I’m reassured by this years data for the Real Schools Guide. For the past seven years this data has been collected and compiled, and I’m happy to say this year it flies in the face of last years Ofsted report for Woodhey.

The ratings are compiled from 50 different measurements collected together from publicly available data. You can find out more about the specifics of this data here.

July 7, 2019 by Lee 1 Comment

No no no, it’s not the Ironman in the image above, Ironman UK is the premier full distance race in the United Kingdom.

It involves a 2.4 mile swim in Pennington Flash, a 112 mile bike ride through Lancashire and a 26.2 mile marathon to the finish in Bolton town centre.

There’s been a few questions related to what roads are going to be closed around Ramsbottom on the upcoming Ironman event on Sunday the 14th of July.

If you weren’t aware of the event, it’s not your fault, there have been a few people who weren’t aware too, hence this post.

So, to try to assist I’ve picked out the roads and streets in Ramsbottom that will be affected from the Bury Council Website.

  • Helmshore Road, Ramsbottom – Lumb Carr Road to borough boundary

Do you think that Play Streets could work in Ramsbottom, or even if they’re a good idea? Our MP James Frith has recently posted on Facebook to encourage residents of local communities to get involved in the Play Streets initiative.

James Frith on Facebook

James goes on to explain in his Facebook post that:

Play streets are quiet residential streets that are temporarily closed to through traffic so that local children can have the space to themselves for a few hours each week.

Doug says:

“Parks and open spaces are for playing on, not streets. Rather than parents just chucking the kids out onto the street so that they can relinquish their parental responsibilities, they should actually improve family life by taking them to the park.”

Chris says:

“Wonderful way of creating a community, it’s not just the children who benefit it brings neighbours together great idea”

Michelle says:

“Good idea, I remember British bulldog and also may we cross your golden river games”

Ann says:

“As long as were given notice so we can get cars on driveways etc I think it’s a great idea”

You can find more about play streets on the Play England website.

Several bits of news for Ramsbottom hit this week which is in the podcast, last Sunday Ramsbottom featured in National Geographic
