Thanks for joining me on a relatively laid back episode of the podcast this week. The amazing weather we’ve had over the bank holiday weekend means that I’ve been spending lots of quality time with my family and all of it, pretty much has been centred around Ramsbottom.
It’s one of the brilliant things about our town in that you can still do plenty and not travel, although I did go to Rawtenstall to get some compost. I’m going to bore you here but they had a great deal on compost in B&M, instead of £8 for 120 litres, it was £5, and as I had recently built two large raised beds, I needed a lot. This involved two trips, once to Rawtenstall where I picked up 7 120 litre bags and a trip later to Bury for 8 120 litre bags. Turns out, I could do with another one ideally. Anyway, they’re done now at least, so it’s time to actually plant things in them, but there’s a part of me that’s looking at them and just wants to them to remain pristine and perfect, but that’s silly.
All of this had meant me spending more time in the sun than I usually should. I generally burn at the slightest gap in the clouds.

Once again, Ramsbottom has featured in The Times best places to live article. I believe we have slipped a little, maybe two or three places as we’re currently 9th for the whole of the North West region. I think we were sixth last year.
You might be wondering how The Times comes up with their list of “Best Places”, well I was too, so I had a look into it. This is what they say:
“We use robust statistics, consider a wide range of factors, from jobs, schools and broadband speed to culture, community spirit and local shops, and combine it all with our expertise and insight.”

It has been a crazy week for Andy Smith, owner of Signature Bar.
On Thursday he was shocked to find that he was unable to get into his own bar. On this episode I speak to him to find out what happened and where he goes from here.
Since being ditched after 18 years of light switch-ons in her hometown of Stockport in favour of Chico (of Time fame) from the X-Factor, Rammy has swooped to poach the greatest of British icons.
83 year old Judith was unavailable to comment but insiders says she’s keen to show Stockport what they are missing..by reuniting the cast of Wish you Were Here. This seems to be fitting, given the numbers of times Ramsbottom features in “best places to live” guides. This hasn’t gone over too well with the residents of Stockport however.
