Welcome to This is Rammy, your sometimes weekly source for all things Ramsbottom in an audible form.

Well I don’t know about you but I’ve had to get that heating cranked up this week, hasn’t it gone cold. One thing for sure, we are well and truly on our way to cosy nights in or even wrapped up social nights out.

This episode I’m talking about one of our favourite things around here in Ramsbottom, no, not walking, drinking real ale or complaining about potholes, I’m talking food. More specifically I’m talking about an article that was recently published in Lancashire Life titled “Instagram for foodies”.

If you’re unfamiliar with Instagram, I can sum it up as being an image based social media platform where it’s users tend to gravitate towards food. If you’re not a follower of the This is Rammy Instagram page, now would be a great time for us to connect.

I’m going to try my very best to explain some of what I can see in these Instagram accounts, if you’re reading this on the website you’ll have the benefit of being able to follow along.

The article in Lancashire Life highlighted some of our more obvious local eateries in the forms of the Eagle and Child, Lolos and Levanter to name just three however it did also help to shine the light on some smaller culinary clever dicks such as Grind and Tamp and even creative cake makers with The Naptime Baker. Seriously, check out the cakes on the Naptime Bakers page, they’re amazing and I really can’t do them justice in words.

Two easy ways to save money on East Lancs Railway – Episode 79

[spp-player]

It’s been a chilly week in Ramsbottom giving us a taste of what’s to come as we slowly slip out of Autumn and towards Winter. The Christmas trees on each business are lit on Bridge Street and everything on TV certainly has a very festive theme, even the John Lewis advert is out now. I’ve not seen it yet, something to do with a dog and a trampoline.

This week I managed to find time to visit the new coffee shop Drinc as well as take a wander up to Peel Tower and finally get myself a residents permit for the railway.

Drinc, which is situated in the old Barclays Bank building at the bottom of Bridge Street is situated in close proximity to the train station as well as being two doors down from long time Ramsbottom Coffee Shop Cultured Bean.

I popped in on my day off to check it out, now I will provide a review on the website soon but on the podcast I provide a sample of the ambience of Drinc.

This weekend I headed over to The Rake for The Rake Hill Climb, took a walk through Tagg Wood and could finally celebrate a win for Ramsbottom United.

I managed to do about an hour or so of Facebook Live footage of The Rake Hill climb today, that’s still available on the This is Rammy pages:

Rake Hill Climb Awards Ceremony

It was quite a long day, took around 3 or so hours from the start of the race for the last cyclist to cross the finish line, number 120. I forget his name but Ian tells me he’s the pro.

Speaking of Ian, I managed to catch up with him to find how his ride went.

worn, bright, yellow, wide and narrow

Bury Times reports that Councillor Hodgkinson spoke up at a recent council meeting with regards to the condition of Bridge Street.

Speaking for Ramsbottom, Councillor Robert Hodgkinson raised the subject of the double yellow lines on Bridge Street since recent repairs:

The recent work carried out at the top of Bridge Street included reinstating the missing yellow lines. It was not done in accordance with our conservation policy.

We now have a patchwork of missing, worn, bright, yellow, wide and narrow lines.

Ramsbottom Festival 2016 Has Started

September 16, 2016 by Lee Leave a Comment

It’s here, and it’s amazing. I’ve just brought my son home from his first ever festival and he was loving every minute.
From rolling around on the grass to running back and forth in front of the main stage and playing drums in the “try out an instrument” tent setup by Ramsbottom Music.

I was worried he’d get bored, especially as the things for families don’t really start until tomorrow, but he’s not been at all bored. In fact I’ve had to try to keep up with him.

As a result of the festival being on this weekend, I won’t be recording an episode of the podcast I’m afraid.

However if you want the equivalent of a live, in person podcast, just say Hi if you’re at the festival.

Enjoy everyone, see you on the other side. I already know I should have booked Monday off!
