It started back in October, a win against Trafford. 2-1, a good win, but little did we know at the time how far we would go.
Ramsbottom United, our Ramsbottom United, the little team sitting on the bank of the River Irwell, often the underdogs, would progress this far in the FA Trophy.
We host matches on soggy pitches, with borrowed lights, borrowed stands, hot drinks in real mugs and Rammy Ultras singing out loud.
Ramsbottom United, have done us proud. Never before have we progressed as far as we did this year. To travel as far as Weymouth, where some would have predicted our journey would have ended, but no, we kept our heads up and came away with an amazing win. We were in the news, on the radio and on TV.
After 12 matches though, it came to an end. Against a team, three leagues above us, but not three leagues in quality. Several times we created chances, and we truly gave it our all.
AFC Fylde 4, Ramsbottom United 1.
Our hearts may be heavy, but we should all be proud of that little club, from the banks of the River Irwell, with our borrowed lights, borrowed stands with echos of songs and chants of “Come on you Rams!”
