Plans for a new bar raises the question, do we need another?

There’s recently been an application submitted through the Bury Planning Portal (64644) which is open for comments regarding the change of use of the old Dream Doors shop on Bolton Street into a bar: “Change of use of ground floor from shop (Class A1) to drinking establishment (Class A4)”

If you’re unfamiliar with the location, possibly you recognise how it used to look?

I know there are people in the community who are dead against any additional restaurants and bars coming into Ramsbottom. I can also absolutely see their argument. Bars and Restaurants already make up a large percentage of the numbers of businesses in Ramsbottom.

In addition there are a number currently closed, so what would this new bar bring that the others couldn’t?

Ultimately, this would mean that another premises that currently has the use as a “Shop Class A1” being changed to a Bar.

I’d love to know your thoughts, feel free to leave them in the comments section below. You can also have your say on the planning application on the Bury Planning Portal on this link. If that doesn’t work just search for 64644

Unfortunately Ramsbottom now has a night culture and I feel there are too many bars and eateries. This means shops suffer and it will eventually stop the daytime visitors who come to shop in Ramsbottom along with driving those who live above the shops and in the centre away.
Surely Bury Council planning department could create a balance between shops and bars. I have lived in Ramsbottom for over 40years and applaud progress but the whole character of Ramsbottom has been changed and not in a good way.

Ramsbottom could and should have been something similar to Hebden bridge. For what ever reason the place has not kicked on, I get the feeling it’s due to lack of local funding. You only have to look at were trinity used to be and it’s still a mess 10yrs on. As for bars and dining establishments it’s more or less reached saturation point especially bars for the size of the town. That can be observed in the opening and closing of such places. When ever I meet friends for a crawl it’s not Rammy but definitely Rawtenstall. That place is on the up, with the right entrepreneurs and a good council🤔 the sky is the limit look at Hebden for that.
