Did you find time to get to Dundee United Reformed Church today to their MacMillan Coffee morning?
I walked into the room half expecting very few people despite the fact I could hear the hustle and bustle from just a short distance from the top of the wheelchair ramp leading in to Dundee United Reformed Church on Dundee Lane.
I was amazed at the turn out, the whole place was heaving, standing room only, which given this was all for MacMillan was amazing.
I paid my £2 and bought three strips of raffle tickets, one of each colour and made my way around the stalls at the outside of the room.
Other than the raffle there was also a cake table, various other tables selling everything from sparkly fluffy owls, jars of a variety of things and even books.
I was told that the cake stall did have some home made pies earlier, but by the time I got there they had all sold out. Darn it! I had to make do with a coffee and flake cake.
The woman running the cake stall also told me that last year they had raised just over £1000 for MacMillan, looking at the turn out this year, I think they should smash that record.
Having never been in Dundee United Reformed Church before, it was nice to go and get chatting to various people about where they lived and how long they’ve lived in Ramsbottom.
Stuart, has lived in Ramsbottom all his life, another woman has lived here for 40 years. Ramsbottom really is a place that people grow old in and I’m glad to be a part of it.
I even managed to walk away with a raffle prize (that I won, I didn’t just take it whilst nobody was looking).
The last two prizes that were left (you could pick anything you wanted if you won) was a James Milner framed poster (not sure if it was signed) and a child’s Manchester United shirt. I’m guessing the room was full of Liverpool fans.
Have a great weekend everyone!
Edit: I received contact today (05/11/2015) updating me on the results of the coffee morning:
Thank you for visiting us on the day and the great write-up. You were right, we exceeded last years £1000 total. This year we raised £1240! Thank you to everyone who made this possible. See you next year
