You’ll no doubt have seen or heard the news recently that Santander, currently the last remaining bank in Ramsbottom is to close.
This was reported in The Bury Times as well as other media outlets.
In the last few days, letters have started to arrive through customers doors.
It’s a shame that these letters are arriving after the news was broken via other means, but I can understand that they want to try to manage the publicity on this.
I’ve pulled out some of the information and documents regarding this closure below as well as identifying that the document created regarding the closures was done so in December.
In the letter Santander inform customers that your account and sort code will not change and that the next nearest branches are Rawtenstall and Bury town centre (whilst these remain open). The reason I say whilst they remain open is that Ramsbottom was provided as an alternative branch when the Bacup site closed as referenced in this PDF file.
With regards to PDF files, I’ve found the equivalent PDF for Ramsbottom where it is outlined how customers currently use the branch. This document was created December 27th 2018, so this has been on the cards for some time.
How do you feel about this closure of our last bank?
Do we still need banks with the onslaught of contactless payment and online banking?
Have your say in the comments below.

Shops need banks to put there takings in, also older people don’t have computers so they can’t bank on line.Ramsbottom should keep Santander open, all staff very helpful financial adviser lovely to deal with most queries.Ramsbottom needs a bank.

Absolutely agree. Surely Santander should be benefiting by being the only bank open in Ramsbottom on a 5.5 days a week basis. Should be able to pick up business from those banks that have already closed? Love having a branch locally and the ability to pop in and solve issues by talking to people rather than waiting in a queue and pressing options and then getting cut off and having to go round and round again!

When the last bank in Ramsbottom closes many banking services will be available at the Post Office, but this will probably mean lengthy queues all the time. This is not really a solution to the problem. Not everything can be done online.
