Only a year ago, they were all the rage, everyone had one, your Mum, your sister, Gran and Grandad all taking photos of themselves doing it.
What am I talking about? Yes, you guessed it, a selfie stick.
Let me set this for the record first off, technically, it’s a monopod, technically. I know, selfie stick is what everyone calls them, but personally I think that just makes them sound cheap (sadly, a lot appear to be).
Why am I talking to you about Selfie sticks? It just so happens, I recently added one to my gear. I know, I shock myself sometimes, I was one of those people who scoffed at the time. My wife even got annoyed because she wanted one at the time.
What am I going to be using it for then?
What I essentially want to do is something like this:
[wp_colorbox_media url=”https://www.thisisrammy.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2015/11/selfie-reporter.jpg” type=”image” hyperlink=”https://www.thisisrammy.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2015/11/selfie-reporter-450×444.jpg”]
Firstly, I don’t mean wearing a dress! I mean the “selfie news reporter look”.
I know, it looks odd to look at but it’s actually something that’s been picked up by more “real” news networks, like maybe you’ve heard of Sky News?
Not laughing now right? Oh, you are. Oh well, I expect I’ll have to deal with that.
One other thing that I know this will do will enable me to get some more cunning shots for the weekly What is it Wednesday. Oh yes, a whole new angle on the game.
For those that are interested, this is the selfie stick I bought, it’s on Amazon for a steal at the moment (£12.99 at time of writing).
This is the first Selfie Stick I’ve ever bought, held or gotten close to, however, it’s really well built and I’m happy with it so far. It’s going to need to be fairly tough and pocketable for what I want to do with it though, which it is thankfully.
Here’s a couple of shots of it:

As you can see, it extends to a HUGE length (stop sniggering at the back!)
I’m planning on getting something like this too, what do you think?

This should get the best picture I can given we don’t exactly get the best light around here. It should allow me to do night reporting too.
Currently, I’ve only produced two things which could be considered reporter-like and they were using periscope, if you’ve got Periscope, add This is Rammy and you’ll see when I go live testing out the selfie stick.
Periscope has been gazumped in favour of Facebook Live and you’ll find what videos I’ve done right here.
Periscope is great, I’ve just been watching a guy in a supermarket in Argentina live. Be careful, it’s quite addictive, sure, it can be dull too, but it’s mostly entertaining.
Periscope is still great, it’s just been surpassed by Facebook Live and Instagram now.
So, I’ve got the kit, now to actually get out there.
Let me know what you would like live streamed in the comments and I’ll do my best to get there.
