The tree is up at Market Square, the date has been set for the markets and if you’re anything like me you’re yet to even start buying any presents.
That doesn’t stop us thinking of the fantastic food that is on offer though and where; if you don’t fancy the arguments and required impeccable timing skills, you can get Christmas dinner “a la Ramsbottom”.
So I’ve rounded up several of the best places in Ramsbottom to eat Christmas dinner, you’ll have to get in fast and book though as these places fill up quick.
They might even be already full so do check first!
These are in no particular order, other than the order they came to mind.
The Eagle and Child
First on my list is the fantastic Eagle and Child. The many time multi-award winning brainchild of Glen Duckett.
The Eagle and Child is located at the top end of Ramsbottom on Whalley Road where they will be serving a delicious selection of local winter produce with their seasonal fixed price menu. The full menu is available here.
Christmas lunch will be served at either 12pm or 4.00pm, with canapes and Bucks Fizz on arrival in the bar. This will then be followed by a 4 course meal, with coffee and handmade chocolates to finish.
Get in quick because a deposit of £20.00 per person is required at time of booking and full payment and pre-order by Friday 9th December!
Total price: £84.95; under 12s £42.50 and kids under 5 eat free!

The Hungry Duck
Next up is one of my many favourite places to eat in Rammy, (but we really are spoiled for choice); The Hungry Duck. Now, although technically you can’t eat Christmas dinner there, you can eat on Christmas eve with their festive take on their regular menu. Check out the site for more info. However, before then you can get in the Christmas mood with their Prix Fixe menu. I had to look this up, apparently it’s french for “lots of food”.
Situated on Bridge Street itself, The Hungry Duck having gone through a change of ownership in the past year or so has gone from strength to strength. With new owner Joe’s jovial, attentive and entertaining hosting skills putting some finishing touches on a stellar night out.
The Hungry Duck have a wonderful Christmas Prix Fixe menu from Thursday 1st December until Thursday 22nd December.
The Prix Fixe menu will be available to diners of all party sizes from Monday through Saturday each week. Also, their ever-changing menu will be available throughout this time.

The Shoulder of Mutton
If you’re up for a walk you can head up Rawson’s Rake towards the Shoulder where you’ll find a very cosy atmosphere with little nooks too.
A great selection of drinks and good homely cooking. You’llbe glad of it after walking up the hill. Saying that though, there is a car park so you could always just take the car.
At Christmas you’ll find a wide variety of foods on offer such as “TASTY LANCASHIRE CHEESE & LEEK FRITTER” or TREACLE, CINNAMON & STAR ANISE CURED SCOTTISH SALMON” with Beef, King Prawns or Ravioli for mains. Check out the full menu here on their Christmas site.

The Hearth of the Ram
Posh nosh establishment, Hearth of the Ram is sat on the entrance to Ramsbottom. It has a large carpark and in the past year or so has added inside/outside seating in their heated snug.
You’re sure of a great meal if you visit here but you’ll certainly need to ring soon as they will no doubt get booked up quickly.
Christmas Day you’ll be treated to a beautiful Six Course Gourmet Lunch with one sitting only.
Lunch commences at Midday with a Taittinger Champagne Reception followed by Lunch through the afternoon in the atmosphere of Hearth of the Ram.
Bookings require a £50 per person deposit for confirmation.
Total cost is £105 per person.

Lolos Vegan and Raw
If you’re veggie or vegan, that doesn’t mean you have to miss out on all the fun and slave away in your own kitchen, not when we have the fabulous Lolos in our town.
Laura of Lolos wants you to let them take care of the cooking and washing-up, and join them for a 4-course menu, with all of the trimmings, including a glass of Champagne.
Christmas Lunch will be served as one sitting, with the champagne reception starting at midday.
As with most places around Ramsbottom at Christmas, seats are very limited, so payment will be required at the time of reservation.
