Ramsbottom residents have a lucky escape when recent storms bring down tree

Just inches from the fence and a few meters from the house.

Residents of George Road in Ramsbottom might not realise how close a shave they had when a tree fell down behind them.

The tree which was located between Dundee Lane Church and George Road was around 20 meters in length has been brought down in recent high winds.

The tree must have been there for many years given its size. The recent wet weather will have no doubt aided in loosening the soil around its roots. It’s surprising that the wind hasn’t brought down any other trees locally given the strength and persistence of the winds recently.

One local resident said “It’s sad to see it come down, me and my son used to watch the Squirrels running up and down the branches each morning, that’s gone now.”

Lucky this wasn’t a bigger incident.

Local residents can consider themselves lucky though as the incident could have been much worse. Had the tree fallen down in the other direction it would have potentially destroyed an electrical substation cutting power for many local residents.

The question now is how long before people come and collect their free firewood.

Isn’t it against the law to remove parts of trees whether fallen or not?

Probably. Doesn’t mean it’s not going to happen.
