The plans for Marshalls Anaerobic Digestion (AD) plant based on Fletcher Bank quarry have been passed to The Secretary of State, (Rt Hon William Hague).
This was suggested by David Nuttall along with the Ramsbottom Against the Waste Site (RAWS) as a matter of investigation after Bury Council had already turned down the planning application.

This was heavily opposed, in fact, only TWO residents out of 1520 who responded to the petition were in favour. Two, that’s just 0.13%

This was not the first planning application that Marshalls with Peel Environmental have submitted, here is a list with links of their previous 3 planning requests, all of which had passed.

One thing from these which I want to highlight is that in planning application 56576 its mentioned that the volume of “inert” waste would be for 950,000 cubic meters up to December 2036. It’s not clear if that’s the total that would be imported over time, or if that’s the capacity for the site, but to put it into perspective, 950,000 cubic meters is the same as 380 Olympic Sized Swimming pools!!
It’s clear that objections to the Ramsbottom Anaerobic Digestion Facility are vast, no’one wants it in Ramsbottom, we’ve managed to gain such a great tourist location in Ramsbottom over the past few years, and for a company to feel that they can treat it like a dump is disgusting. Green belt is green belt for a reason.
The public enquiry should come to a decision tomorrow (April 1st 2015). I’m hoping they don’t treat us like fools.
If you search twitter, you can find various tweets from people living near to AD plants complaining about smell, here is one of someone who actually VISITED a plant:
I visited TEG AD Plant, after had to undress at the door so the smell didn't get in house. Worse smell than chicken do doos I kid you not

I’m hoping that the Secretary of State can come to the right decision on this and even finds some time out of his busy schedule to come and visit Ramsbottom to see just what people come to visit for.
