ThisisRammy hit Chocolate Café for afternoon lunch

December 14, 2014 by Lee Leave a Comment

Me and a few friends had a lovely meal in the Ramsbottom Chocolate Café yesterday afternoon, although the place was very busy, the service was second to none, all staff were very helpful and our food arrived promptly.

Unlike what you’d expect, not all of the food is chocolate based, however the chilli I had did happen to have some dark chocolate in it, but I feel that’s more for effect then taste, I couldn’t taste it anyway.

As I mentioned, I had the chilli with baked potato for my meal, but the crowning glory was the Milk Chocolate Hot Chocolate with Ginger, it was amazing. Very sweet and rich, I could only have one, but that would be one a day and I’d still never get bored of them.

Once you’ve finished eating you can head downstairs to buy some chocolate or just watch them making it in the viewing area. It’s difficult to not be tempted by the array of chocolates on offer. I bought some chocolate to remind me of my visit, sampled the free chocolate drops on the till area and paid our bill. The smell is great whilst they’re creating the chocolates, however given it’s so close to the till, it’s easy to become distracted when prompted to “Please remove your card”.

Ultimately, this is a brilliantly executed destination should you find yourself in Ramsbottom, if you don’t find yourself in Ramsbottom, why not make a special trip, there is LOTS on offer, I defy you to be bored. Plus, it’s hard to miss the Chocolate Café, it’s opposite the big metal sculpture, officially called the Tilted Vase but effectionately known to most as the Urn (or Urnie).

Some day you will find me… in a Ramsbottom Wine Bar

October 20, 2014 by Lee 2 Comments

…caught beneath the landslide in a champagne supernova in the sky.

Well Ramsbottom will this Friday have it’s very own wine bar, XLII.

A dedicated Wine bar has been lacking in Ramsbottom, we’ve got various pubs and restaurants that all do great selections of wine, and even a fantastic wine shop with The Vineyard, it’s just difficult to pour yourself a big glass when you’re only there to buy a bottle or two.

XLII as we all know is 42 in numbers, maybe its the meaning of life? Maybe it’s just the door number of the building, who knows, one thing is for sure, they will be serving Brewsmith Beer so not just wine. Quite the treat destination. The question is, will they have a beer equivilent of a sommelier or will they just be suggesting wine.

Nice to have a Ramsbottom wine bar though, certainly a very worthy edition to an already bustling array of nightlife establishments.

So allow me to provide a warm ThisIsRammy welcome to XLII to Ramsbottom. The first Ramsbottom wine bar.

‘Melt’ into National Chocolate Week 13th – 19th Oct

October 12, 2014 by Lee Leave a Comment

This week is National Chocolate Week here in the UK.

According to the Oracle (wikipedia) the word “chocolate” comes from the Classical Nahuatl word xocolātl(meaning “bitter water”).

The chocolate we eat today is a million miles from “bitter water” though and since sugar was added to this original Aztec luxury in the 16th century its become a popular treat growing companies such as Cadburys into around a £12bn business.

One such business taking a more traditional approach is the ever popular Chocolate Cafe in the heart of Ramsbottom.
Although they say they’re doing “nothing special” for chocolate week, they quite rightly say “it’s always chocolate week at The Chocolate Cafe”

Which is as good a reason as any to visit I would say.

Bury Estate agent ‘shopping their property listings

September 29, 2014 by Lee Leave a Comment

Could a Bury Estate agent really be photoshopping their photos?!

Update: It looks like these images I linked to in this post have been removed, as a result I’ve removed them from here too.

Recently, it has came to our attention that a popular estate agent either has mystical powers to control the weather, or they’re touching up their photography, the most obvious being fake sky, here are some examples from RightMove:

http://www.rightmove.co.uk/property-for-sale/property-31443849.html

You’ll see that the clouds there look very familiar, maybe it was just that they were able to take the photo from the front, there was little wind, and run through to the back and the cloud formation is the same? Oh, you doubter you 🙂

So, here is another photo, from another property, using that very same cloud formation:

To give them some credit they do actually tweak the clouds a little, here they have changed the blue to make it a little deeper:

To highlight what we mean, see here 🙂

The sky, sure, it’s nice to show what an area would look like on a lovely day, and living in Britain, we all know that this is less and less likely to happen, unless all housing photography was taken no the one sunny week we get.

One of us wondered what the sky was actually like on that day, and several examples were found:

Ramsbottom Pie Festival, Oct 19th 2014

September 27, 2014 by Lee 2 Comments

Update: Pie Festival is today!!

It starts at 10am outside St Paul’s Church and also involving the local shops and businesses.

Enjoy it, and we hope to see you there, I’d get there early to avoid being dissapointed, I plan on eating many pies.

It’s Pie Festival time again at St Paul’s Church on Bridge Street.

Come along, buy some pies, you’re sure to see some interesting flavours, as well as old faithful choices. Many local butchers and bakers will be supplying pies as well as a giant pie in the “guess the pie weight” competition.

The Ramsbottom Pie Festival is going to be flan-tastic, ok, that’s not really a pie pun, most of my puns are a bit CRUSTY, alright alright, I’ll put a LID on it. Either way, it should be really ex-PIE-TIN (exciting, get it?).

What’s your favourite pie?
