This week for the podcast I visited the third meeting for Ramsbottom Against Fracking.

What do you know about fracking? For me personally, other then it’s been all over the news and some minor research, I’ll be honest, I didn’t know much.

Thankfully, I was recently invited to attend a Ramsbottom Against Fracking meeting. With this invitation in mind, I set off on a chilly full moonlit night on the 22nd of February, destination Lolos Vegan and Raw (the meeting location) to find out exactly what fracking is, and how it affects us.

In the last few weeks we’ve seen the iconic chimney stack of the old Mondi Paper Mill start to be demolished. Although it will not be completely removed – just having a third of it’s current height taken off, it will still change the scenery of Ramsbottom which has remained since the mid 1800’s.

The primary reason for this is safety, having sat unused since 2008 the chimney and site have both became unsafe. In 2014 a 60 metre exclusion zone was constructed around the chimney and site to prevent accidents.

Since the chimney is changing forever, I thought I would dedicate an episode of the podcast to go into a little detail about the history of that iconic chimney.

Date night at Oscars Ramsbottom

February 19, 2016 by Lee Leave a Comment

OscarsSignOscars Ramsbottom, not one sign of a gold man or Di Caprio anywhere to be seen…

Me and my wife on Wednesday the 17th of February went to Oscars for the first time since moving to Ramsbottom. It’s a place that we pass regularly, but we’d never actually put the effort in to booking a table, or just heading over.

So, for Valentines day we went and had a meal out while Grandma looked after our son. (What, you didn’t go out on Sunday the 14th? No, of course not, that’s insane).

We had a table booked for 7:30 but we ended up being ready quicker then we’d anticipated, so rather then sit around and wait for half an hour, I rang ahead and asked if it were OK for us to head over for 7. They said it was fine, and we set off.

Arriving at Oscars there was plenty of parking available, there were quite a number of hotel guests already parking there – [Read more…] about Date night at Oscars Ramsbottom

In 2013 Blackened Eyes, Jennifer’s debut album was released.

Jennifer is currently working on her follow up to Blackened Eyes and planning a UK tour, but you don’t need to wait! You can hear her support Fred’s House on Wednesday the 17th of February, so when this is released, just three days!
