New Pizza place “The Pizza Boys” launches in Rammy

On December the 1st, a new Pizza place came into town with both a pickup and delivery option. (delivery only available for orders over £15 which I didn’t notice but to be fair is stated at the bottom of the menu on the website) pizzaboysdelivery15pounds

Anybody who knows me knows I love my pizzas, and the meatier the better (sorry Laura but I’m a meat eater, I do know it’s bad for me.)

Understandably, I was excited when I heard that there was going to be a gourmet pizza place opening in Ramsbottom.

After eagerly following their progress, when it came to their launch night, I had it all planned out what I was going to order.

If you were to check the reviews on Facebook of The Pizza Boys, you’ll find there are a number of reviews pre-December 1st. These reviews are highly likely to be friends and family, but don’t hold that against them, that’s what everyone does 🙂

I rang up and got straight through, placed my order, was called Chris halfway through the call, had someone else pick-up the phone (I’m presuming they share the line with The Railway) and told I needed to order £15 to make a delivery. Something I’d overlooked. Damn! OK, so what else, I was then recommended the chicken wings. Great, works out fine. Total cost of the order was £17.90. £12.95 for the pizza and £4.95 for the wings.

The staff answering the phone, very polite, I say staff, I think it was actually one of the founders, certainly one of them delivered the order.

I was quoted a 30 minute wait on the phone, perfect fine I thought, plenty of time as it was about 6:30. I was very surprised when my food arrived only 15 minutes later.

I answered the door, paid the guy and was happy to take delivery of my order in half the time I expected.

I took a handful of photos, and sat down to tuck in to my hoard.  The chicken wings, which I only bought because I had to spend £15 for delivery were great. I think they’d been deep fried (I think wings generally are, but I rarely eat wings or ribs, because I can’t be fussed with the mess) had nice skin on them, like crackling and the coating was lovely, just the right amount of spice.

The pizza, was again great, good amount of toppings, a little smaller then I’d hoped for, but the meat looked good quality. Sadly, it was a bit luke warm. Which got me wondering. How had this food been prepared and brought to my house within 15 minutes? I can’t cook a pizza from scratch in 15 minutes. I’m about a 3-5 minute drive including traffic lights etc from The Pizza Boys. So you’re talking 10 minutes, assuming I’m the only customer.

The only thing I could guess was that the pizza was either pre-made, or had been reheated. The meat did have a reheated texture to it, I just don’t know how they did it all in 15 minutes? That’s why I was quite happy with the 30 minutes wait. Don’t get me wrong, if I’d waited 30 minutes and the food was the same, I’d be very disappointed.

Pro Points of The Pizza Boys:

  • Very quick to answer the phone and very speedy delivery (quoted 39 minutes, but took just 15)
  • Great selection of premium pizza choices
  • Very polite service

Cons of The Pizza Boys:

  • Could have been a bit warmer
  • Tad expensive
  • Very quick, almost too quick.

Ultimately, the question is would I use Pizza Boys again? Maybe. The food was good, but it wasn’t quite £13 good, especially as it was only luke warm. Not when if you compare it with Jamie’s Italian in Richmond, no pizza costs over £12, and that’s London.
