One of the most popular new restaurants Baratxuri has suffered at the hands of vandalism. An altercation on the street happened which resulted in a wheelie bin being thrown through the window. Staff and customers of Baratxuri were not involved with the individuals and it was an unprovoked case of mindless vandalism.
It seems to be quite a common occurence in Ramsbottom, a few years back there was a spree of windows being smashed on Bridge Street with Bleakholt Animal Sanctuary being hit twice over a few years.
I just spoke to Mike from The Card Shop on Bolton Street who has also had his window smashed in the past. He said “I know how I felt when I arrived to find that, so I can only imagine how Baratxuri are feeling”
Police were at the scene earlier taking statements. This one act has cost Baratxuri more then just a window, it’s the time and emotional effect it’s caused too.
Baratxuri told me “Lovely support from everyone so far. Just want to get it open and fixed, it’s Saturday.”
The window was smashed by a wheelie bin being thrown at it on Friday night (05/02/2016). Me and a friend had been in Baratxuri just a few hours earlier in the evening and there was no sign trouble at the time.
I and the rest of the town hope it is resolved soon and those people responsible brought to justice.
Update: Baratxuri have posted on their Facebook page an update on what happened:
