Welcome to another episode of This is Rammy, you might be aware I’ve been feeling pretty crappy this week as I’ve been struck down again with flu.
We’ve been fortunate enough to have had another week of being visited by the Flying Scotsman and I know that some of you listening have been lucky enough to even go on it, Anne Lockett and Christine Gillies to name just two.
If you took a trip on the famous Flying Scotsman, I hope you had a truly magical time.
As of when I’m recording this, which is just before midnight on Saturday the 16th of January, we have snow. There is currently around 3-4 inches on the ground, and it’s still snowing, only lightly, but snowing all the same.
If you don’t need to drive anywhere today, don’t, even though roads have been gritted, well at least my road has been, they can still be icy so please take care.
I know I’ll be out today with my son, freezing and still ill, but it’s worth being pelted by snowballs to see the enjoyment on their face, then snuggling up under a blanket watching TV with some steaming hot chocolate.
So as it HAS finally snowed, I thought I’d give you my top four activities you can do in the snow. You should know at least two of these.
Here are my top four things to do in snowy weather:
Number 4: Frozen Bubbles
Once we hit subzero temperatures, ordinary soap bubbles can freeze creating some amazingly beautiful orbs of ice.
They don’t float very well, but they certainly look beautiful.
Number 3: Build a Snowman
One of the most obvious things to do with snow is to build a snowman! Build it tall, build it fat, build it happy. I want to see some fun snowmen on my walk today though, I’d like to see Olafs galore, snowdogs and maybe even a few snow Peel Towers?
Here’s a few tips though. Firstly, don’t dress your snowman in anything you actually care about, things do tend to disappear from snowmen overnight.
One other thing, if you want your snowman to last, building it under a tree or some other type of shelter should help if it were to rain.
Number 2: Snow Graffiti
Simply put a few drops of food colouring in some spray bottles filled with water and you can turn the snow into a giant canvas for your artwork. Maybe you could be the next Snowski? Just be careful where you spray, as it WILL stain your clothes.
Number 1: Sledging
This is the classic winter activity, whether you’re using something fancy and expensive or repurposing an old tea tray, I’m sure you’ll get some speed up on Ramsbottom’s signature hills.
I have it on good authority that the best sledging hill in Ramsbottom is near Albert Street. If you know of any better sledging locations, let me know!
Feedback
I received a very lovely email from Katie Leach who gave me a tip. Apparently a beer shop is due to open Silver Street. I’m not sure exactly where yet, but I’ll keep my eyes peeled on that. She also went on to say “Really love your site, keep up the good work!”
Thank you so much for taking the time to write in Katie, if you would like to contact me like Katie did, you can get in touch via the contact page.
