There have been quite a number of changes around Ramsbottom recently, not only have new places opened but there’s been some changes at Ramsbottom United this week too, so much to talk about but so little time! So let’s get on with the show.
No sign of Tom Cruise…
New cocktail bar Signature opened this weekend in the former Yummy Chinese building on Bridge Street. They had a pre-opening ticket only event on Friday the 5th of October and opened fully to the public on Saturday the 6th of October. Yummy was closed for what felt like an eternity, it was probably about 18 months or so and then popped up Signature. For a while it was rumoured to be a Gin emporium style affair but it appears to be more cocktails.
One thing I did find out is that the general manager of Signature is previous barman and cocktail maker extraordinaire Josef from the wine bar 42 on Bolton Street. I can confirm that I have had one or two cocktails from Josef in the past. He’s a nice guy and always did a great job. I’ve put a photo on the website of him making us one back in 2016 around Christmas time. Up until I was researching for this episode of the podcast, I hadn’t realised he was involved with Signature, nice to see him sticking around in the area. Wishing you all the best with the business guys.
Also, Lacy Days, the Prom and Bridal wear shop has changed owner. Julie Walker who had owned the business for many years has now retired and handed the keys to the diamante box to new owner Wendy. Wendy has already got stuck in and has done a fantastic job of the look of the shop. It’s now been painted in a stylish grey colour from the more cream like colours of before. There’s a picture on the show notes for this episode.
Italiahh-no!
Some sad news regarding the opening of the new Italian Tre Ciccio which was aiming to be open before Christmas in the former Venetian building, you might recall back in July 2016 there was a terrible fire.
The new plan for Tre Ciccio is that they are aiming to be open early next year. I’ve already asked if they would like to come on the podcast, and nearer the time to opening is when we’ll be looking to arrange this. Oh, I also forgot to mention, Tre Ciccio only went and won Pizza Chef of the year this past week down there in that there London in the National Pizza Awards. Now if that’s not a great sign, I don’t know what is. Bring on the future Ramsbottom awards!
Small but powerful.
Fulfilled plastic free shop opened in early September and I totally forgot to mention it in the last episode. Owner Abbie Sellers had a dream to open somewhere in Ramsbottom a shop which ditches the plastic. So, in September, opening in the old House of Beer building Fulfilled started to help shoppers purchase things they need without the needless plastic packaging that is often added without good reason.
Now, if you’re older like me you’ll recognise the concept to be a bit like a little version of a “Weigh and Save”. A great thing though is the method by which the food is dispensed in Fulfilled being from bottom to top means that you won’t end up with the crappy food at the bottom being ancient like you would in a Weight and Save where they had big drums of food and you’d have to practically climb in to get what you need.
In addition to this, Abbie is dedicated to the cause and dedicated to customer service. I love seeing her updates on the Fulfilled Facebook page especially recently where a customer took in a recipe book with their children and Abbie helped them get all the ingredients they needed without any additional waist or expense. How many times have you had to buy a massive bag of something, or even a big tub of herbs when in actual fact, you only needed a teaspoon or two.
It’s great that Abbie has taken this leap, and one thing is for sure, she’s a PR genius having been in many local news sources as well as several national too. Nice work Abbie, thanks for helping to keep Rammy on the map.
Ramsbottom United News:
It’s all change at Ramsbottom in the manager department again. Harry’s head must have been spinning given how fast this all appeared to play out in the news. Check out this, on Tuesday the second of October it was announced that previous manager Mark Fell had left Ramsbottom United to manage Lancaster United in the Evo-stik premier, the following day news was provided that Andy Robertson the goalkeeping coach had temporarily taken over the role of manager with Ramsbottom United accepting CV’s by email for the position. Then on the 4th of October it was announced that previous Ramsbottom United player Chris Willcock has accepted the position of manager.. That’s a busy three days guys, someone has to keep track of all this, write it down, and then report on it in an audio form you know!
Currently Ramsbottom United are sitting in 13th place after the draw with Chasetown at the weekend.
The next match for Ramsbottom United is away to Widnes on Tuesday the 9th of October.
